#C4G2017

With only 10 days to go, #C4G2017 is ready to roll!

Our 40 cyclists, from Dubai to London to Toronto, aged between 25 and 60, will touch down in Avila on September 24th to start the 260km from Avila to Madrid. Out of the 40 cyclists, 21 are new to the #C4G movement and over 10 have participated more than once!

'Gaza conditions 'unlivable' 10 years into siege: UN' quoted from various media sources. Largely unreported by the media, Gaza has been facing one the most dire situations due to the Israeli blockade (The blockade on Gaza entered its 11th year in June 2017) – electricity is only available for 4 hours a day, hospitals have shut down or are over capacity, medical supplies are at a chronic low at less than 40% of supplies available. Not to forget 60% of the youth are unemployed. As Robert Piper, the UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Development Activities, mentioned in an interview "I see this extraordinarily inhuman and unjust process of strangling gradually two million civilians in Gaza that really pose a threat to nobody,". As such it is imperative we continue to work together to help alleviate some suffering.

To date, our team has raised $110,000 for this year’s Mental Healthcare Project, which we previously launched with the PCRF in 2015. The project aims at providing children in Gaza with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with the mental healthcare and support they need, through counselling, summer camps, or access to psychiatrists & medication – all very rarely available to the average child suffering with any mental issues in Gaza.

We thank you for all the support you have provided over the years. You can follow our progress over the next few days and while in Spain on all our social media sites.

Thank you for all you do to make this happen year after year.

The Projects Aims are as follows:

  • To provide free medication to patients who are in need of support
  • To hire eight professional psychologists and psychiatrists to provide mental health counseling for children for the duration of one year
  • To provide weekly and monthly group counseling for 200 high risk children and 80 mothers to teach them mental health coping skills
  • To Support three summer camps in Gaza where counselors run intensive counseling for 200 high risk children to teach them coping skills for dealing with PTSD

About The PCRF

The PCRF was created as a nonprofit, nonpolitical medical relief organization during the first Intifada by concerned people seeking ways to contribute in a positive way to the humanitarian needs of children under Israeli military occupation.  Over the past twenty-two years, the PCRF have sent over 1,000 children from Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Iraq for free surgery in North and South America, Europe, Asia and other parts of the Middle East.  Over 10,000 children have had direct surgery by hundreds of visiting teams from all over the world. In addition to being the main organization sending children abroad for free care and bringing in expert surgery teams to provide care and training for local medical personnel, the PCRF also run many different humanitarian programs and projects, including opening the first and only public pediatric cancer dept. in Palestine. The PCRF has field staff and offices throughout the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Lebanon to ensure that we are able to identify and support the care of children in need.
