We are opening our 2017/18 Season next Saturday (Sep. 23) with the music from Monteverdi to Handel

Dear Friends of New Trinity Baroque,

We are ready to start our new Season. And we are pleased to invite you to our Opening Concert next Saturday, September 23rd at 8 PM, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Atlanta (1790 LaVista Rd).

For this occasion, New Trinity Baroque will presents a meditative evening of sacred and secular vocal and instrumental music from Monteverdi to Handel. Entitled "Musica Sacra et Profana" this concert will include vocal compositions such as Giovanni-Battista Agneletti's "Gloria", Henry Purcell's "The Evening Hymn", "Lord, what is man" and "Sweeter than roses", Claudio Monteverdi's "Jubilet", "Si dolce è'l tormento" and "Ut queant laxis", as well as instrumental compositions for theorbo, viola da gamba, harpsichord and organ by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Alessandro Piccini, Johannes Hieronymus Kapsberger, Giovanni Battista Vitali and Christopher Simpson. A special treat will be the duets for two sopranos and continuo by Henry Purcell ("Sound the Trumpet") and Italian duets by George Frideric Handel - "Quel fior che all'alba ride" and "Ah, nelle sorte umane".

With this concert we also celebrate one very big anniversary - the 400th birthday of Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi.

Italian master Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643),
whose 400th birthday we celebrate this year
This concert is a wonderful opportunity to hear the sound of archaic instruments from the time when music was written, such as viola da gamba, chitarrone (theorbo), harpsichord and chamber organ. Vocal soloists will follow historically informed techniques as well, and will be enchanting you with their artistry. Also, our forthcoming CD of Buxtehude's "Membra Jesu Nostri", recorded this past June in Serbia in conjunction with the Belgrade Early Music Festival, will be pre-sold at a special discounted price!

Directly before the concert, at 7 pm, we will have our usual FREE pre-concert talk. During the intermission, we will serve wine and juice as refreshments.
