October 7: Come help us on the Farm (9 to noon)
Fall is here and we need to prepare the farm for the Winter months. There is so much to do!

Please join us on October 7 for our Fall Work Day.

From 9 a.m. until noon, we will:

  • Compost our finished beds
  • Plant some fall and winter crops
  • Set up a secure pasture for our chickens
  • Fence in our orchard and dig holes for tree planting

Stay until 1 p.m. for music, a delicious lunch, and a chance to hang out with new and old friends.

Please contact loletta.ho@costanoacommons.org for more information or if you have questions.

We can really use your help!

Support for Costanoa Commons Farm comes in many forms. For a group of good friends from St. Bonaventure’s Church in Clayton, CA, it came recently in the form of a delightful visit and a donation.

In addition to sharing the same faith community, these women regularly meet to play Bunco! They ventured down to Santa Cruz for an overnight stay this summer and, as part of their trip, visited our farm and presented us with a generous check to further our work. To top it off, one of their employers, the Aetna Foundation, matched their gift!

Thanks to these lovely women, we can purchase the materials we need to make our farm’s raised bed area wheelchair accessible, ensuring access for all in every season.

Wow! Thank you for supporting our vision and helping people with disabilities find meaningful work that offers lifelong learning. Your generosity, and that of all our donors, makes all the difference. Please come back and see us next year. Bunco on the farm sounds like fun!
Pollinators welcome!

As most of us know all too well, it can be hard to slow down in our fast paced society. If you visited Costanoa Commons farm this summer, however, and took time to be still for even a few moments near the zinnia bed or in the midst of our sunflowers, you could have seen or heard some of the busiest workers on our farm.

Butterflies, honeybees, native bees, wasps, and other insects were humming with activity. We’ve all heard about the crisis facing bee colonies as hives have died off in large numbers across the country. Knowing how critical pollinators are to food production, we are taking steps to support these vitally important insects.

If you are interested in helping with this effort, please join us on Saturday, October 7, when we will be planting pollinator friendly perennials. By creating hedgerows and adding flowering plants that offer both food and habitat for pollinators, we hope to keep our farm humming for many years to come.
