This afternoon my Council colleagues elected me to serve as Mayor of Seattle for the next 71 days until the November election results are certified on November 28 and the newly elected Mayor takes office.

I am grateful for the trust and confidence my colleagues have shown in appointing me. I will continue to serve in this new capacity as best I can.

My 10 years on the Council have been some of the best in my life.

To Seattle voters, thank you. Thank you for electing me three times to serve you on the City Council. It has been an honor and a very humbling experience. I’m grateful for the trust and confidence the voters have shown me.
