Special Bulletin for MMRA Members:

Upcoming Board of Directors Election
And Membership Meeting

Since its founding in 1983 the Miracle Mile Residential Association has served as the voice of the community on an array of important issues from land use and planning to safety and traffic. The MMRA’s achievements include the creation of the Wilshire Green Park on 8th Street and the Miracle Mile HPOZ.

The MMRA is a consensus-based volunteer organization that represents all residents of the Miracle Mile – property owners and renters alike. Over the past 34 years the MMRA has built a reputation as one of the most effective and influential community associations in Los Angeles.

Our success stems from our ability to adapt. We have embraced digital and web-based platforms, including YouTube and social media, to fulfill our key mission: providing our members with important information that impacts our community.

Recently, we updated our bylaws to reflect the modernization of the MMRA and current state laws governing non-profit community benefit organizations.

As part of this process we expanded our boundaries to match those of the Miracle Mile HPOZ (Wilshire Blvd. on the north; San Vicente Blvd. on the south; La Brea Ave. on the east; and Fairfax Blvd. on the west). We also limited membership in our organization to actual residents, excluding property owners whose primary residence is outside the Miracle Mile.

The MMRA is a governed by a board of directors. In October we will be conducting a vote-by-mail election of directors. As a current MMRA member you are eligible to vote.

Members may nominate others or themselves for election to the board. These nominations may be made via email to info@MiracleMileLA.com or by mail (MMRA, P.O. Box 361295, Los Angeles, CA 90036) and must be received and/or postmarked by October 1, 2017.

Regardless of the number of members residing in an abode (or residence) located within the MMRA, only one vote will be counted from each eligible abode. Assuming more than one member resides in the same abode, it is the resident-members’ responsibility to determine how to cast their shared vote.

To be eligible to serve as a director the candidate must be a dues paying member of the MMRA for the past two membership years (2015/2016 and 2016/2017). Existing directors have the option of running for reelection. All candidates must provide written consent to be nominated. We also request that candidates supply a few sentences stating their qualifications to serve, which will be included on the ballot.

Directors will serve a one-year term. They must attend monthly board meetings and serve on a board committee. Board meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at the Westside Jewish Community Center at 7 p.m. Directors who miss four consecutive board meetings will be discharged.

A board-appointed Nomination Committee will determine the eligibility of the nominees and submit a list of candidates for the board’s approval at its regular October 12, 2017 meeting.

On October 14, 2017 we will mail a paper ballot to all qualified members. This mailing will include a pre-addressed return envelope. Ballots must be returned and post-marked no latter than October 31, 2017.

Returned ballots will be opened and the votes tabulated at a joint meeting of the Nomination Committee and the Executive Committee. Candidates who receive at least 10% of the votes from the ballots returned will be elected as a director.

The election results will be announced at a MMRA membership meeting on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10 a.m., at the Korean Cultural Center. This meeting is open only to current, dues-paying members and not the general public.

The membership meeting will feature a conversation between the members and Councilmember David Ryu. Safety and crime issues will be the central topic of discussion and representatives from the Los Angeles Police Department will be on hand.

The MMRA will host a community-wide meeting and town hall in January 2018 which will be open to all, regardless of MMRA membership. We have conducted these meetings for decades as part of our outreach to the community at large.

Your participation in this election as a voter and/or nominee is crucial to maintaining the continued vitality and effectiveness of the MMRA. The protection and preservation of our Miracle Mile neighborhood depends on your support.
