Dear PS 124 Families,
Whether you are a new family joining PS 124 for the first time or a family that is returning, I am pleased to say WELCOME on behalf of the entire PTA Executive Board.
As a parent or caregiver of a PS 124 student, YOU ARE ALREADY A MEMBER OF THE PTA! There are no mandatory dues or membership requirements – only the desire to support and enrich the educational, emotional and social lives of our children.
The PTA plays many crucial roles at PS 124 including:
- COMMUNICATION: Monthly PTA meetings are a vital source of information about what’s going on in our school as well as a forum for your questions, concerns and ideas.
- FUNDRAISING: As with most schools, the PS 124 budget from DOE is stretched thin. The PTA helps fill budget gaps by funding important student support and enrichment programs.
- ADVOCACY: Whether it is on the School, District, City or State level, our voices are always stronger together. The PTA can help identify and advance common concerns from families.
- COMMUNITY EVENTS: Sometimes one of the most important things we do is just get people together. Community events – whether they are fundraisers or not – play an important role in connecting our school and families to each other and to the community.
Studies have shown that parent/caregiver involvement in education is crucial. Students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school.
Please join us and see for yourself.
Our first PTA meeting of the year will be TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 at 6:30pm in the Gym Space. The agenda will include approving a budget, setting priorities for the year and preparing for an upcoming election of one parent to the SLT (School Leadership Team.) Pizza and babysitting are always provided.
