Messages from the Office

Symposium related inquires only please

With only a couple of days left in the office before Symposium, we will only be responding to Symposium related inquires until Monday 25 September. There is still heaps left we need to do!! Thanks for your understanding.

Get engaged on NZOIA's future....

Strategic planning for the next 3 years was the main focus of the July 2017 NZOIA Board meeting.  With Sport NZ funding now in place through until 30 June 2020, the Board is reflecting on what NZOIA should look like in 3 years’ time and how we build the organisation’s long term viability.  We expect there will be strong competition for the next round of Sport NZ funding in 2020.  NZOIA is both an association of outdoor professionals and a qualification body – is this a model we should continue for the future?  We would like member input to this discussion and will run a session on the Thursday evening (21st September) at the start of the Symposium.  This session, and the Symposium and AGM generally, will also be an opportunity to raise any other issues/questions with Board members. If you have other issues you want us to be aware of before the Symposium, or if you are not going to be at the Symposium and want to comment, email us at  board@nzoia.org.nz

FAQ

Q: What are the political parties saying about key Outdoor Recreation issues?

A:  There are some key issues relating to the outdoor recreation sector that are currently being discussed in the lead up to the Election. The New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) submitted six carefully considered questions relating to the outdoor recreation sector to the major political parties. The answers they have received are on the NZRA website here

Also as part of the Outdoors Forum, NZRA invited representatives from six political parties to participate in a panel discussion moderated by Andrew Leslie. Take a look at the video here. Key points in the video are at the following times:

- Recreational Access to Freshwater: 5:55
- Department of Conservation funding: 12:26
- Sport NZ funding: 32:00
- Unformed legal road: 37:16
- Urban design for recreation: 41:00
- Summary positions: 48:00
