Dear Parents and Students
We have certainly hit the ground running, and after only 4 weeks into the new academic year, students have been busy on all fronts. Year 13 students especially have been very proactive during this most important time of their journey towards life after school.

Coffee Corner for Year 13 parents
Parents are always an important part of the university process, and in order to keep you updated on what is happening in terms of deadlines, university essays and interviews, and to offer advice on how to best support students during this important time, the HEO ran their first Coffee Corner of the academic year last Thursday, 7 September.

Year 12 – Getting proactive!
Although the HEO will be focusing mainly on Year 13 students this first term with the aim of submitting the majority of their university applications by 16 December 2017, we are always very happy to meet with Year 12 students new to DC, and those who still have questions over their IB subject selection.
The HEO will run a total of 10 large group sessions with Year 12 this academic year, focusing on explaining major university admissions systems, and helping them explore the vast and complex array of options that are available to them.

|
Year 10 & 11 – Starting to explore!
Students have been very proactive in attending university visits this term and impressing reps with their thoughtful questions. A huge pat on the back to all of you - and please keep attending these visits - research is the most important element of this whole process and so by by time you reach Year 12, you will be extremely well prepared.

Upcoming events
PSAT - Wednesday 11 October
The PSAT/NMSQT is the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The PSAT is a great primer for the SAT, and even the ACT. Although the PSAT is a practice test and scores are not used in university admissions, the PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships.
Students will have received a booklet giving them more information and advice about how to prepare. For more information, please click HERE
DC University Fair
Thursday 21 September
We are very excited to be organizing our fourth university fair here at DC. With over 120 institutions exhibiting from around the world, it promises to be another successful event.
Please note that all Years 10-13 students will be attending the fair at different times during the morning.
For a copy of full programme, please click HERE.
For a copy of the schedule, please click HERE.
For a list of universities attending, please click HERE.
Please take the time to look through this information with you child and target those institutions which will be of potential interest. There is a list of sample questions that students should be asking the university reps and so they should be well prepared by next week.
