Greetings Spinners,

WOW...what a great ride for over 20 bicyclists on a late summer evening when we battled the rolling hills North East of Beloit. The "best-dressed cyclist" award goes to none other than Joel Hable who had just returned from a family trip to the Czech Republic & other Eastern European Cities where he bought a red/white original Budvar (Budweiser) Jersey and bright red socks to boot. Joel said that he did not bicycle during the 2 week trip so for those looking forward to a two hour slide bicycling slide show at our Autumn gathering will be very disappointed.

There was some great pace line sharing and the ride was a bit shorter because we were concerned about diminishing light so next week's ride (and future rides) will begin at:

                                                   5 pm

Weather looks pretty good for this coming Tuesday so let's keep on truckin' and don't forget your front & rear Blinkies!!!

Here is a report from Spinner Chuck Lewis on this past weekend's Tyranena Ride:

The Tyranena Brewery Octoberfest Ride is now in September, a naming problem resonant with the name of the brewery itself, which was the banner Lake Mills gave itself in 1866 to recognize the indigenous term for sparkling waters but then changed its mind a year later. Anyway, about 1500 riders showed up on a very hot and windy day for a fine ride that included at least eight Beloiters. The demographics ran from impressive racing kits to a rickshaw exodus. I myself began the day with a intrepid purchase of a case of assorted beers to stash away for another time, and then joined my cohort for the 65-mile loop to the northeast, which meant we all paid in kind with the return into stiff southerly headwinds and rest stops that had run out of Gatorade. But the pulled pork and music and incredible beer options in the endzone were all excellent, and I can recommend their double IPA and an oatmeal stout midwifed in bourbon barreling. Here is a photo of our very own RAW-Spinner Phil Shields, with whom I kept up a 20-mph pace into an urgent headwind and a discussion of campus politics until I could keep up no longer on all three fronts and just decided that the browning corn and rusting soybean and a solitary road would have to be reward enough as a goodbye to summer. The other shot is a factory in Watertown that captures my aspirational cycling philosophy.

Great job, Chuck & Phil...terrific pace and you both deserve a double IPA!!!

Two other Spinners, Larry & Jodi had a great ride at the annual Fat tire ride in Hayward, WI...here are their respective results on the 16 mile track:

Jodi finished 4th out of 26 riders in her age group; Larry finished 1st out of 33 in his age group--that is terrific and congrats to both of them!

Cheers

LiteSpeed Rick
