Weekly Meeting

Please join us for our next weekly gathering, taking place this Sunday, September 17th, for meditation and dharma sharing, 6:30pm at Unitarian Place (Kingston Unitarian Fellowship), 206 Concession Street. Susan Young will be bell minding.
Embracing Anger with Tenderness

"Mindfulness does not fight anger or despair. Mindfulness is there in order to recognize. To be mindful of something is to recognize that something is there in the present moment. Mindfulness is the capacity of being aware of what is going on in the present moment. “Breathing in, I know that anger has manifested in me; breathing out, I smile towards my anger.” This is not an act of suppression or of fighting. It is an act of recognizing. Once we recognize our anger, we embrace it with a lot of awareness, a lot of tenderness."

-- Thich Nhat Hanh, "Loosening the Knots of Anger"

Peace Walk & Film

Walk With Me

Thank you to everyone who joined us to walk in solidarity with Walk With Me for Peace last Saturday, and to sangha member Karen Parsons for organizing the walk in McBurney Park. It was a lovely afternoon imprinting peace upon the earth with our steps, and afterwards we all agreed it is a practice we could do regularly as as sangha. We also recently heard back from Magda Rotko at Speakit films (producers of Walk With Me). Although the film is still not available in Canada, they know we're eager to bring it to Kingston, and hope it will be soon.

Excitement

"Many people think excitement is happiness. But when you are excited you are not peaceful. True happiness is based on peace. At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit or further away from it. Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything - anger, anxiety, or possessions - we cannot be free."
