Topic Description: Transitioning your organization to electronic records can be difficult and overwhelming. Even working within a hybrid environment provides its own challenges. Please join us as we hear from Julie Alles-Grice, Assistant Professor/Program Director of the Health Information Management at Grand Valley State University. Julie has successfully assisted in the transition from paper-based records to electronic health records. You will hear about considerations in getting started, methods for conversion, decisions regarding workflow, and implementation of an electronic records policy. Even if you do not work within the medical industry, the suggestions and strategies presented will be relevant to your organization.

Biography – Julie Alles-Grice, MSCTE, RHIA

Julie Alles-Grice is the Assistant Professor/Program Director of the Health Information Management at Grand Valley State University. Julie obtained her Master’s degree in one year from Ferris State University in Career and Technical Education with a concentration in Instructor, all while teaching 17 credits. She also has two bachelor degrees from Ferris State University in Health Information Management and Health Care Systems Administration. Currently, Julie is in the dissertation phase of her Doctorate from Capella University in Health Administration with a concentration in Health Care Leadership.

Prior to teaching Julie worked as a health information management professional working in the acute care and long-term care settings wearing many hats. This includes coding, the release of information, working with physicians to complete their medical records on time and educating physicians on proper documentation and coding updates. Julie also did remote coding from home where she worked for hospitals such as John Hopkins and a variety of other facilities.

Julie’s research interests are cancer registry, telehealth monitoring, and cancer screening.
