September 20, 2017

Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

Fall has certainly arrived.  The official first day may not be until Friday, but the weather has told us that fall is here.  Along with fall comes being in the full swing of school!  It is hard to believe, but we are already in our fourth week of the school year.  It was wonderful to see our Pre-K through fifth grade families at Curriculum Night last week and I look forward to seeing our sixth, seventh, and eighth grade families tonight at 7:00 PM in the gym.

Four weeks into the year, ASB students are demonstrating an impressive level of leadership in our community.  Our sixth grade students did an outstanding job of leading our parish masses this past Sunday.  At both masses, I was struck by our students’ poise, confidence, and reverence as models of faith for the rest of our community.  Both Fr. Oliver and Fr. Haydock commented on the level of excellence – sixth graders, you have set the bar high!  On Monday, our newly elected Student Leadership Team led our first spirit assembly of the year.  From a uniform fashion show to the introduction of the ASB Cheer-O-Meter to the highly amusing faculty Oreo challenge to the eighth grade welcome tunnel, our student leaders set the tone and modeled true Bulldog spirit!  Our whole student body is exemplifying leadership daily, from their attentive behavior in mass last week to their encouragement and sportsmanship in soccer and cross-country to their support and collaboration as cast members in the fall play.  Thank you to each of our students for all that you bring to ASB each day.

Along the lines of leadership, I want to take a moment to congratulate one of our inspiring alums, Matt Broom.  Matt is a senior at Bishop Blanchet High School this year and just found out that he is a National Merit Semi-Finalist.  This honor is well-deserved and Matt’s hard work and commitment to excellence has certainly paid off.  We are so proud of his accomplishments and know that many more opportunities lie ahead.  Well done, Matt!

A few business items for the week:
  • Alma – Please let us know if you have not yet received login information for Alma.  Please double check your family’s information and let us know if corrections need to be made in the system.
  • Pick-up/Drop-off – Please do not have students enter or exit cars until you have reached the appropriate spot, supervised by adults.  This is a safety issue.
  • POGO - Our contest continues.  If 25 new families sign-up by September 30, we will have a free dress day for students!
  • School store – Our fabulous school store ladies, Amy Genovese and Lisa Hanson, have added some terrific new Bulldog Friday items that are available now.  Please see the link below for ordering.
Last, but certainly not least, I hope to see everyone at our school’s 70th Birthday celebration on Saturday.  Mass will be at 5:00 at Assumption Parish, followed by a party in the gym from 6-9 PM.  We will have a pasta dinner – generously provided by John and Tracy Hall – drinks, birthday cake, and a band featuring members of the 1957 graduating class!  If you stick around to help us clean up after, your family will earn double service hours! Let’s celebrate all of the joy and community that is ASB School!

Best,
Kathleen Conklin

ASB Band News and Choir News

ASB Choir begins rehearsals next week
The ASB choir will begin rehearsals this upcoming Tuesday and Thursday, September 19th and 21st, from 7:30 to 8:20am in the Music room.  This fun singing ensemble will have a busy year performing at school, on Sunday masses at both parishes, and at various community events during the year.  This group is open to all 4th through 8th Grade students.  Contact Mr. Turner for more information.
September 24-30 is National Box Tops for Education Week!
Help ASB celebrate this week by sending in all of the Box Tops for Education that you collected over the summer. During the 2016-17 school year, participation in the Box Tops for Education Program earned ASB a little over $1000. Let's collect even more for ASB this school year!  It's very easy for ASB families and friends to participate. Encourage neighbors, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or anyone close to you to help collect Box Tops for our school.  Parents, think about adding a collection box or envelope in your place of work so that co-workers can participate.  The more people we involve, the more money that can be raised for our school to be used for books, playground equipment, or even technology.  Here's how to participate:
1. Purchase products from the grocery store with the Box Tops logo
2. Clip the Box Top off the product.
3. Send it into school.
4. ASB earns money for the Box Tops collected!

With the University of Washington starting school next week, many of our Extended Care Staff members are starting back to school.  I just want to relay to families that as our staff starts school, some of their schedules have changed and as a result, the shifts and schedules that they have been working at Extended Care may change.  This also means that we will have some new staff members joining our team over the course of the next three weeks.  I look forward to introducing our families to the new Extended Care staff.

ASB School is closed on Friday, October 6, 2017, for an Archdiocesan In-Service. There will be no Extended Care available on this day as ASB School will be closed and all employees will attending the in-service.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you have not yet registered your child(ren) for Extended Care, it is never too late.  We will be accepting registration forms throughout the school year, so families that are still trying to figure out their childcare needs have all the time that they need to get things situated.  Please do not hesitate to contact Dylan Pouley if you have any questions or need to make inquiries about our program.

If you have any questions about Extended Care, do not hesitate to contact me, I am happy to assist in whatever way that I can.

Thank you,
Dylan Pouley
