Sad Goodbyes

We had to say some sad goodbyes over the past two months. Anna, Peace and Emily, students at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, were here to practise their English teaching (EFL) skills but they did far more than that and we appreciate their willingness to throw themselves into life at The Centre.

Anna writes;
The Centre changed my perspective on using EFL teaching for ministry, as the teachers use their skill and passion to meet new students and build lasting friendships. At the Centre, everyone is welcomed and included into the family there. Christ’s love is evident in the lives of the staff, and this is very intriguing to the students. They may initially sign up for the sole purpose of improving their English, but the strong community is what keeps the students coming back. It was a privilege not only to teach here, but to become a part of the Centre family.

And then there was Caleb!! We thought we knew what a Hipster was but Caleb took it to a whole new level!! Thank you Caleb for all your energy, wisdom, craziness and solid Bible teaching. Also for your big heart for all the students. You are surely a leader in the making and we are privileged that God chose us to be part of that process.

Caleb writes;

  I had a super radical year in Thailand! Teaching English was a wonderful way to get to know people and make friendships that will last a lifetime.  Pretty much I taught English, played board games and ping pong to build relationship and even had the chance to share about God's love with some of them!

When we can, we like to tell you about a student who has been impacted by God through The Centre. We will always change the name when we do so. Praise the Lord with us for this story.

Ollie is a student who originally studied at the Centre last year with one of the Moody students here then. He then took a break and came back in May of this year.  He came to some cooking nights but apart from that, was on the periphery of things. Fast forward to mid-August and Ollie is part of the furniture at The Centre and a real part of "the Centre family"! He usually arrives when we open, whether or not he has a class that day, and leaves to go out for dinner with some of us when we shut!  He spends a lot of time playing Chess which he loves, but when there are others around, he'll happily join in playing other games! He obviously loves coming to The Centre and he laughs a lot! Ollie has also attended house church (a mid-week Christian meeting) for about a month and really enjoys this too. It is obvious to us that God is drawing Oliver to Himself and it's very exciting to see.
Give thanks and pray for…..

1. …. Ollie. That he would continue to love coming to The Centre and House Church. That God would help Oliver grow in his understanding of who God is, and that he'd want to know God for himself. Please also pray that Ollie would see answered prayer as this is often key in Thai people becoming interested in Jesus.

2. …. the small group of students who stay and go out to eat with us each evening. Pray for relationships to be strengthened in these times.

3 ...... For our two new teachers. One has just started and one is about to start. Please pray that they would settle in quickly and be fulfilled as they serve God here.

4 .......for new good teachers and students. We always ask you to pray for more students and QUALITY teachers. Teaching is our connecting point and so we always need both QUALITY teachers and students!!

5. …..for all our teachers and Thai staff; that we would teach/work well and that God’s love would permeate out from us to each other, the students and our neighbours. And pray for sensitivity and boldness as we share Jesus with our students – and our neighbours.

5........ for the short-term teams who will be visiting us shortly. For good connections and for effective times here.

Thank you so much for your partnership with us.
