FALL CONTAINER WORKSHOP

Extend your container season well into the fall by learning these easy tricks. Join us for a demonstration on how to jazz up your pots with more than just mums.
Bring your gloves and a pot if you would like to design and plant while you're here. We'll have plants and soil available for purchase.

FALL GARDEN MAINTENANCE
Tips for your garden and lawn
Finally that fall gardening motivation is returning. Now that we made it through the hot, dry months we can get out there and finish some of those projects we started earlier this year. Remember to water new plants deeply until the ground freezes.
TURFGRASS: September is a great time for fertilizing your lawn, we suggest Pro Rich for the best results. Seeding can also be done now, both grass seed and wildflower seed. FLOWER GARDEN: Cut back perennials after we have a hard frost that damages the foliage. Leave up any flower heads that have seeds for the birds or provide winter interest (including ornamental grasses). After cutting back your garden beds, add an extra layer of mulch for winter insulation. BULBS: Plant spring blooming bulbs in the next 4-6 weeks. Plant tulips in a fenced area to protect from deer and plant later in the fall to prevent critters from digging up the bulbs. Daffodils are not favored by either and can be planted in an unprotected spot. Dig up any tender bulbs (dahlias, etc.) after frost damage and store in a cool, dry place for the winter. VEGGIES: Harvest tender veggies and cut flowers before frost. Many cooler season crops can continue to grow well into the fall. Garlic can be planted in October for harvest next summer. Add compost or manure to the soil and start planning for next year! HOUSEPLANTS: Bring houseplants inside before any danger of frost. Check for insects and repot any if needed. TREES: Protect your trees from deer by caging or putting on a tree collar.

This slow growing evergreen is one of the longest living trees and an excellent addition to any landscape. It's unique growth habit and durability makes it a great choice for Montana gardens.
