Fr. Pete Rossa

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Fr. Pete Rossa's passing. Fr. Pete was the pastor of St. Bernadette Catholic Church here in Scottsdale. We pray for him, his family, our neighboring community of St. Bernadette, Saint John XXIII Catholic School, the Diocese of Phoenix and the whole church as we mourn. Fr. Pete collapsed and fell while saying morning Mass. His fall resulted in a serious head injury and he was taken to the hospital and was treated for his injuries by a team of caring and outstanding health care professionals. He passed peacefully yesterday afternoon surrounded by his family, friends and clergy. May God embrace him and welcome him into the Kingdom of Heaven. We hold on in faith, knowing that this 'good and faithful servant' is resting with his loving Creator.

Disaster Relief:
Living Beyond Sunday opportunity

This week everyone is encouraged to bring one non-perishable food item (peanut butter, ready-to-eat meals, canned fruits and vegetables, etc.) to Mass, to help restock the St. Mary’s Food Bank shelves. They are sending items into Houston & Florida and can use assistance restocking their inventory. At all the Masses this weekend, there will be a second collection to financially support disaster relief efforts through St. Mary’s Food Bank (local), Catholic Charities USA (national) and Catholic Relief Services (international). And never forget the power of prayer. Further questions contact Barb Nicol at 480-998-3843 x-116 or bnicol@stpatcc.org

GIVING, PRAYING & SERVING -- Beyond Sunday Campaign Parish Open House & Neighborhood Meetings. Come and see your generosity at work! On Thursday, September 21st at 6:00 pm there will be a Parish Open House regarding our formal application to the City of Scottsdale’s Design Review Board for a masterplan that includes our campus improvements. As you know, our Parish continues to work on the Beyond Sunday Capital Campaign to renovate and enhance the campus to meet the needs of our community while continuing to respect our neighborhood. We are eager to share with you the progress and plans for our masterplan. Renderings will also be available to see after all Masses on the weekend of September 23/24. St. Patrick will be hosting an open house for the surrounding neighborhood the following week. Please keep these open houses, the campaign, and our Parish in your prayers as we continue to move forward in this process. Thank you.

Our Catholic Response to the news on DACA

Last week we shared with you the statement from the Diocese of Phoenix and the USCCB on the news of the DACA program ending. This week, the Diocese has shared a simple resource with 5 things that everyone should know. We encourage you to download it so you have a better understanding of the situation.

“As people of faith, we say to DACA youth – regardless of your immigration status, you are children of God and welcome in the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church supports you and will advocate for you.” - USCCB

The Diocese of Phoenix invites the community to join together in praying for Dreamers and for comprehensive immigration reform at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23 at St. Agnes Parish, 1954 N. 24th St. in Phoenix.
