"The human species has a oneness that transcends all differences and that, in some way, we really are everybody else as well as ourselves. When we greet someone, we are greeting ourselves at the deepest level. Everybody has the Divine Presence in them and is saturated with God."

Thomas Keating
New: God is Love: The Heart of All Creation companion book
Q: Thomas Keating identifies three essential biological needs for human beings: (1) Security & Survival, (2) Power & Control, and (3) Affection & Esteem.  Can you please tell me if these biological needs are Fr. Keating's own creation or did he borrow them from another source? If another source, where? If original, what led Fr. Keating to this insight?
A: Read the response from Fr. Carl.

Please submit your questions about contemplative practices, the spiritual journey and the contemplative life to Fr. Carl by emailing Pamela Begeman.

150 Psalms for Singing is a FREE ebook based on a rendition of the psalms, Psalms for Praying by Nan C. Merrill. The poetic, inclusive words are set to simple chant-like tunes, easily sung without accompaniment, and appealing to all ages. Juliana Howard, a Centering Prayer practitioner, begins each day with a psalm and created this e-book to share with others. Read more here and download the free e-book.

NEW: God is Love: The Heart of All Creation companion book is an edited transcript of the DVD series by the same name. In addition, it contains beautiful supporting images and quotations for reflection. The book is a valuable companion to viewing the series, or can serve as a thoughtful reader, independent of the DVD series. It offers a vision of hope and a view of reality that at once integrates the sciences, religion and humankind’s place in the cosmos as divine in origin, unifying in purpose, unfolding in its grandeur. 183 pages with color images.

The Path of Centering Prayer: Deepening Your Experience of God
by David Frenette

"As I've worked with students of Centering Prayer over the years, I've found hidden treasures in its founder Thomas Keating's teachings—as well as in my own meditations—that I believe need to be brought forth in order to deepen the practice. I wrote The Path of Centering Prayer to share those treasures with others.

"One such treasure is learning how simple contemplative attitudes deepen meditation and our experience of God. For example, meditation ripens as we rest in the receptive attitude of effortlessness. But how can you be effortless? It's possible, but not so easy." Read more.
