UvA385 grant for Sofie van Ginneken
Sofie van Ginneken has been awarded an UvA385 grant and will carry out her research project The architectural perception and performance of Amsterdam as a tourist city 1838-1990 as an external PhD researcher at ASH. Her promotor is Lex Boxman and co-promotor is Petra Brouwer.
The UvA385 grant is a new type of grant especially for PhD candidates launched to celebrate the 385th anniversary of the UvA. This is a grant that clearly meets a need, given the large number of applications. This year, 22 PhD candidates received a UvA385 Grant. To continue offering support to PhD candidates who have insufficient funds to acquire international experience, the University Fund has started a fundraising campaign.

The 2018-19 program topic is ”Interdependence.” Food, clothes, entertainment, and the security and health of the planet depend on what distant people do for, with, and against others. Sometimes, recognition of interdependence has led to cooperation, other times to conquest or competition, and frequently to a mixture of all three. Oftentimes, new social identities and movements, national, regional, and religious, emerge in response to rising interdependence and the convergences and inequities it has produced. We invite applications from scholars whose work addresses this topic in any historical period or world region and from any disciplinary background. Deadline November 1, 2017 11:59 p.m. EST
