Activities this Month!

September Newsletter

A new season, a new Newsletter! This is the time of Autumn (called after the falling leaves) or Fall…
In the Dutch language Autumn is called Herfst…  which – as you can still hear in that word - has to do with Harvest. So to celebrate this harvest season you are invited to join the Harvest of our very own Spectrum-apple-tree in the orchard  across the river on Saturday the 7th (see below).  
And as the weather gets colder and the daylight shorter we aim at keeping our inner lights blazing…. with meditation on Tuesday, Taizé, singing and inspiring discussions and more… Enjoy!

WURldsongs student pop chorus

WURldsongs sings plants


Date: Every two weeks
Time: 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Location: Builsing with the clock - Office SPC

Sing with WURld Songs this year! The student chorus will be singing plants: songs about trees, shrubs and flowers. This choir sings capella and the repertoire consist of pop songs, ballads, musicals, taizé songs , many songs from all over the world. The main goal of this choir will be to be together, enjoy each others’ presence and get to sing in harmony.

Location: Arboretum Church 

Every second Monday of the month at 8.00 pm, we organize a Taizé celebration. In the tradition of the ecumenical congregation of Taizé we gather in silence, singing, reading and praying. The celebration is multilingual. Everyone is welcome, and afterwards we can have a drink together.

Wetenschap naast religie. Zijn het twee aparte werelden? Gaan evolutie en schepping samen? Wat betekent de tekst in Johannes 10 ‘Gij zijt goden?’ Gaat de robot het overnemen van de mens? Is de snaartheorie religie? En het allerbelangrijkste: wat betekenen de antwoorden op deze vragen voor de manier waarop jij zelf je leven leidt? Meld je aan bij Bram van Driel of Didi de Mildt.

The worlds of Science and Religion, the worlds of different cultures. This is a start-up for a discussion group about Science and its implications for our way of thinking and our lives. If you feel you would like to talk about stuff that is on your mind, and have a discussion with others about a diversity of issues and points of view, please join us! You are welcome to join for the apple-harvest in the Organic Orchard in Hemmen, accross the river Rhine. We will harvest a beautiful Bramley seedling-tree, adopted by Spectrum. Then we will have a picnic lunch. Please, bring something to eat with you and a plastic bag to sit on. Also bring a bag to transport your apples.
We meet at the building with the clock and leave by bike from there at 11:00 for a 25 minute ride. We’ll be back in Wageningen around 14:30. To harvest is a great way to enjoy the abundance of nature, to get some fresh air, exercise …. and apples!

On Thursday 12 October we’ll have an Apple Pie Baking Workshop with the organic apples we harvested the week before. You will learn how to bake your own traditional Dutch apple pie. We start at 18:00 in Markt 17 (behind the big church) in the centre of town and share a vegetarian meal while the pies are in the oven. No costs.
