Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy Law Program

Fall 2017 Newsletter

EVENTS & PROGRAMS
CURRENT NEWS

Message from Janice Weis and Lucy Brehm: The Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy Law program at Lewis & Clark has blossomed beyond the doors of the institution, creating relationships and opportunities for traditional law students as well as increasing numbers of people who want - and need - to know more about the impact of environmental law on the huge challenges our society and planet face in the 21st century. With our  growing Master of Studies program, our creative new courses, our federal agency trainings, and our clinics and centers, all of which bring in scientists, journalists, policy makers, teachers and other "non-law" professionals, we are expanding the definition of what it means to be a student of law.

Read through our "GreenFlash" news and you will note the incredible outreach from our faculty who continue to publish and speak out in newspapers, magazines, online, and on air - in addition to producing traditional law review articles. Our program and courses are enhanced by the exchange of these different points of view and experiences. With that theme in mind, we hope you will read about some of our highlights from last year as well as our path forward in 2017-18. Thank-you, Janice & Lucy

GREENFLASH FEATURE:

Lewis & Clark's Green Energy Institute, led by Prof. Melissa Powers, hosts "Re-energizing the West - The Western Clean Energy Future" - Oct. 7, 2017

Western states are poised to play a global leadership role in clean energy development, but shifting national politics and the absence of strategic planning in the West could delay the western energy transition. At an upcoming L&C conference, Re-Energizing the West: The West’s Clean Energy Future, elected officials, renewable energy executives, and regulatory administrators will identify next steps to advance an inclusive clean energy transition throughout the western states.

Speakers include leading lights from the U.S. Congress such as Jeff Merkley, U.S. Senator from Oregon, and Earl Blumenauer, U.S. Representative for Oregon's 3rd Congressional District, as well as industry and thought leaders.
