Early fall is one of the best times to view spiders, since many of them are all grown up! Keep an eye (or eight) on the program calendar throughout the rest of 2017 for fun programs with our eight-legged friends!

What's new to explore in N.C. state parks?
Play,Learn,Discover!
Rainy day? Looking to rest your feet after a hike on the trails?
Check out the new Sandhills Discovery Room
at Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve!
A grand opening was held on July 29th and we have already had hundreds of visitors enjoying it. This fun-filled room has so many different opportunities to learn about the outdoors, even when you’re indoors. You can use a microscope to look at little things up close like butterfly wings, or snake skin, or feathers. You can put on a puppet show with animals. You can play games, read books, put together puzzles, crawl through an underground tunnel, dress like a park ranger, and more! There are even some comfy rocking chairs looking out over our bird feeders that your parents can relax in while you explore. And when you’re ready to get back outside, we have plenty of trails for you to hike. You never know, you might just find some of the things out in the park that you were learning about in the Discovery Room!
