® 26-28 JANUARY 2018
Global Game Jam 2018® jam site registrations are now live! If you are a returning organiser, or want to have a go at organising a GGJ site for the first time, we would love to hear from you.

The only things you need to open a jam site are a dedicated organizer and a jam venue with internet access. Please take some time to read the GGJ Manual and Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about setting up a site.

If you still need help, feel free to email us at help@globalgamejam.org. Whether you’re a veteran site organizer planning your ninth GGJ or a newbie interested in starting your own jam location, we invite you to:

Global Game Jam® is about to turn 10 years old. We want to look back on our memories and celebrate with a printed book. Do you have a great GGJ story or photo from the past? We are looking for contributions from everyone who has helped make GGJ successful over the last 10 years!

Where are they now? STARWHAL
STARWHAL
STARWHAL was created at the 2013 GGJ at the Carleton University site in Ottawa, and quickly became a glowing success, due in part to the couch gaming/local multiplayer boom that was happening at the time.

The Heartbeat theme helped to shape and influence a bunch of decisions while making the game, including the central visual focus of the target area, and more subtly, the slow motion when you get near the heart is an element that makes STARWHAL so dramatic and fun for both players and spectators: having a moment when everything drops away and all you hear is the beating heart.

After the immediate super positive post jam buzz, we eventually got over one million unique visitors playing the game. From there we decided to flesh the game out and brought STARWHAL to Steam and all the major consoles. We did a successful Kickstarter and added lots of fun stuff. STARWHAL is really what turned Breakfall from a hobby into a full-time job for several team members, and we're still going strong.

That GGJ was a pivotal moment for us. We would not have committed to trying to make something so weird if we didn't have that limit. It was also great to have people see and feedback immediately. Deeper than that is how much it's informed our mentality about trying out crazy themes and rapid experimental prototyping. Our company now tries to use the game jam mentality to inform daily operations.
Hello from Sensoryx
The GGJ is all about ideas and creativity. We want to tap the creativity of VR/AR developers and see games emerge that go beyond the limitations of existing controller concepts allowing the player to fully immerse in VR.

May the VRfree glove inspire you to develop intriguing and exciting game experiences that allow you to interact with the environment as completely and intuitively as with real life – just without its limitations. May the fun be with you!
