Leadership skills are growing in the youth committees

EDITION 3, 2017

The Youth Committees are well underway and we are seeing the young people enjoying and growing in their new positions of responsibility.

Young people are always at the focus of our work in South Africa and it has been very promising to see the children at Ncedo Thuso and Leth'ithemba Safe Parks six months after the youth committees have been set up. The young people are taking the lead in supporting their peers, and those who look up to them, and everyone is seeing the positive results in the programmes.

Andiswa tells us how Ncedo Thuso Safe Park has been a place of learning and development for her during her teenage years.

TRUSTEE REFLECTIONS
Jan Fredrickson has been a trustee of the Bishop Simeon Trust for almost ten years. Jan looks back to the changes in our projects and highlights the core values that still remain at the heart of all that the organisation undertakes. Read her thoughts here.

Andiswa is 22, and lives with her surviving aunt who works as a Child Care Advocate at Ncedo Thuso Safe Park.

“I have been at Ncedo Thuso Safe Park since 2005, which makes it over 10 years now.
The Safe Park plays an important role in my life and the youth programme has helped shape my way of thinking, I have a more positive outlook on life. Coming to the Safe Park is an everyday learning experience as now I am older I volunteer to help in the daily running of things.

I would like to contribute to the youth by sharing my knowledge because I think there is a lot that we can learn from each other’s experiences. I have learnt to make the best of what I have. I learn better ways to look after myself and ways to overcome adversity.”
