- The Dyson website has some great resources including one on the design process. It includes information on the design process, links to the design of their new hair dryer along with a short scheme of work and lesson planning ideas.
- Nike’s Pro Hijab, Dyson’s Supersonic hairdryer, and Adidas Futurecraft sneakers are just some of the winners of the 2017 Innovation By Design Awards. See other categories and winners which includes a range of products across all material areas in D&T. This could be a useful homework research activity getting students to investigate the winners and runners up, evaluating what make the designs a winner entry, and thinking about how the ideas might inspire the students themselves.
- Anyone who attended the GCSE courses we ran for the D&T Association in the Spring and Summer term will have seen the great short video we showed on iterative design. The video was previously only available as part of a resource to buy but has now been released by the Association on their You Tube page (you can still buy the full resource on their website). This video is really great for introducing the iterative process to both students and teachers.
- & too many other things to mention!

#ThinkDoMAKE: Wood, Plastic, Paper, Metal & Textiles These activities were originally part of the 2016 - 2017 Textiles Teacher Roadshow. They might be of interest to teachers who want ideas on how some of the materials aspects of the core content might be approached from a textiles perspective.

The D&T Association are collating questions from members to put to exam boards with the aim that responses will be posted on their website. This is a good opportunity to get answers to queries, as well as a chance to have your say about any issues, along with a chance to feedback anything positive. This is also a good opportunity for the D&T community to have a wider voice as it will help to flag up common issues rather than individuals being a lone voice. Email any queries to Debbie.woodbridge@data.org.uk.

Spotlight On ……The Textiles Teacher Roadshow
|
|
|
|
|
Who is the event for? Teachers, technicians & trainees. Although this course has a textiles focus it is suitable for specialists and non specialists. The focus will be on D&T GCSE but the day will also be of interest to teachers of art textiles and other textiles based qualifications.
Where & when is it held? Sat 14th Oct in Nottingham & Sat 2nd December at Lady Margaret School in London (With possible plans for a course in Dorset later in 2018)
Why should I attend? For a day celebrating all types of textiles with lots of hands on activities To feel more confident about delivering the core content of the D&T GCSE from a textiles perspective To get ideas on how the core content of the D&T GCSE might be delivered in a creative way that maintains the unique identity of textiles To see a small amount of student work on display Take home a small selection of material samples relevant to the core content of the D&T GCSE To network with other teachers
Anything else? This is our lowest cost course at £42 but it’s still a day packed full of activities, creativity and fun. Some lucky delegates will also win prizes available during the day. Find out more about The Textiles Teacher Roadshow

About Our Training We're a small independent company & run our own courses & events, as well as delivering courses on behalf of other companies. Our USP on our independent courses personalisation of content to meet the needs of individual delegates & because of this we often restrict numbers on courses to very small groups. This is not cost effective for larger companies & it's something that sets us apart. Another USP is that we often deliver content together meaning delegates get a breadth of experience from our time in the classroom, as leaders, or in industry.

Looking for CPD on a limited budget? Look out for the Roadshows which are low cost Saturday courses offering quality CPD at a fraction of the cost of our standard courses.
Did you know courses we deliver on behalf of the National STEM Learning Centre are bursary funded for state schools, including accommodation in some cases? It’s just a form to fill in & there's no limit on how many courses you can attend. Your school pays a deposit which is refunded in full once you attend (independent schools can attend but pay the full fee). Look out for the bursary in course details to know which courses this applies to.
