ET Music Therapy

Autism Speaks Canada Walk
One of our first service partners in operation at the GoodLife Fitness Family Autism Hub, ET Music Therapy, did a wonderful performance at the Autism Speaks Canada Walk on Sunday. Shown in the photo are Esther Thane (Executive Director, ET Music Therapy), with program goers Dayton Mutch and Marshall Forsythe, performing ‘Lovers in a Dangerous Time.’

ET Music Therapy provides music therapy programs for early Intervention, adolescents, and adults. They offer individual sessions, group sessions, rock bands, and also parent drumming circles.

ET Music Therapy is based on one simple principle: Music is one of the most motivating & effective mediums for building strong connections with individuals with special needs. The dynamic musical experience provides a safe, nurturing environment in which an individual can feel secure and confident to explore. Because music has stimulating, sensory, motivational and emotive qualities, it can be used as a tool to elicit music, verbal, emotional or corporeal responses and promote interaction and engagement in an enjoyable and often effortless way.  An individual will always integrate new information and skills when there is inner motivation and curiosity. Music can be the built-in reward.  In music therapy sessions, experiences can facilitate development in all skill domains.  All activities are tailored to the client's ability level & are designed to utilize his or her personal strengths, motivations and interests.

Charity Concert for Autism, Nov 12

The Global Federation of Chinese Business Women, Association of British Columbia, have been working really hard organizing their own fundraiser, a Charity Concert for Autism, which will be held on November 12 at the River Rock Casino in Richmond. Their partners in Taiwan have already held a similar fundraiser for a charity supporting Autism in Taiwan and now they are doing the same thing here in Canada!

We're truly grateful to have been chosen to benefit from these funds, which will make a huge difference for our families across BC. It's set to be a fun-filled evening featuring entertainment from Spencer & The Dream Continues and the concert will also include a special performance by our Hub partners at ET Music Therapy!
