Co-Presidents' Message
Dear neighbors,
Another glorious summer has almost run its course in Oakbrook.
The food trucks were a hit again this year. The monthly events at Powell’s bus loop were well attended by residents seeking various savory and sweet offerings.
The National Night Out events throughout Oakbrook on August 2nd helped bring our neighborhood together.
As we prepare for cooler temperatures, several opportunities for tidying up our homes and yards avail themselves. Littleton and Englewood have household hazardous waste roundups on September 9th and 16th. Littleton’s annual leaf and tire drop off event are three weekends in November. See the Community Calendar for more details.
Oakbrook’s Covenant Committee is active again this year and is enforcing the covenants. Additional members are welcome.
Following the covenants helps keep Oakbrook beautiful. As always, keep your garbage cans out of sight when it’s not your garbage day!
Our HOA’s annual meeting is coming up on November 9 at Koelbel Library. Open positions coming up for election at the annual meeting are Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Interested residents should email the HOA and attend the annual meeting. See additional details below.

Covenant Corner
by John Ford, Acting Vice-President & Covenant Committee Lead
The Covenant Committee is back in action, patrolling the neighborhood to observe covenant compliance and approving residents' home improvement project requests. The goal? To ensure that Oakbrook looks its best, for the enjoyment of current and future residents and the appreciation of home values.
Covenant enforcement is the biggest request received by the Board and Covenant Committee, and we're doing our best to meet demand. Of course, the covenants won't enforce themselves. We need neighbors to chip in. We need you.
The Covenant Committee is always accepting new volunteers. The more, the merrier. A larger coalition of covenant observers means violations get reported and addressed more quickly and effectively. Plus, we enjoy catching up over snacks and drinks at our meetings.
Remember, all residents must abide by the covenants. If you get a violation notice, please correct the situation immediately to avoid escalating the problem.
NOTE: RVs, boats, campers, and trailers can only be parked in driveways or on the street for three days. Need to park it longer? Put it behind the setback and six-foot fence.

Trash Talk
by Ben Burke, Co-President & Jessica Mendes, Communications Director
Dumpster Days Coming Soon
You asked, and your HOA is making it happen.
Soon, Oakbrook will host a large roll-off dumpster or two for several days in convenient locations within the neighborhood. Take advantage of this
opportunity to dispose of large items, yard waste, and household skeletons -- all
at no cost to you.
Check our Google Calendar at www.oakbrookhoa.com/pages/529233997 for dates (yet to be determined) and keep an eye out for announcements on social media at
facebook.com/groups/OakbrookHomeownersGroup or OakbrookCO.NextDoor.com
Don't Feed the Furry Frenemies
Raccoons: cute, cuddly, disease-ridden. We've had reports of several sightings.
Take simple precautions to keep Oakbrook's pets, children, and gardeners safe.
- Keep trash and recycling bins inside your garage or shed.
- Seal food waste in a zip-top bag before throwing it away.
- Secure trash bin lids with bungee cords or purchase wildlife-proof trash bins.

Around the House
by Cindy Mitchell, CM Real Estate, Inc.
Cooler temps and brightly colored leaves are a reminder the fall season is fast approaching. The weather can change quickly in Colorado and you don’t want to be caught unprepared. Here are some tips to prepare your home for the coming winter months.
Interior
- Check for drafts. Use a lighted candle and if the flame flickers, there’s most likely a draft. Repair caulking around windows and doors. Replace worn weather stripping.
- Hire an HVAC professional to test for leaks, check heating efficiency, and change the filter. They can also do a carbon monoxide check to ensure air safety. It’s also a good idea to stock up on extra air filters and change them every month.
- Buy a programmable thermostat, if you don’t have one. If you already have one, check the temperature settings. Adjust as necessary.
- Replace the batteries in all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide devices and test to make sure they’re working properly.
- Check washing machine hoses for leaks and repair as necessary. Clean lint from dryer vent.
Exterior
- Check your roof for loose and/or missing shingles. Repair as necessary.
- Check chimney for blockages and ensure proper operation of damper. Hire a chimney sweep if cleaning is needed.
- Clean the gutters. Remove leaves, nests, and debris from gutters and check for leaks. Check that water drains away from the house. Install extensions as needed.
- Check siding for needed repairs and caulk windows and doors.
- Turn off faucets and store hoses. Drain garden hoses and disconnect from the outside spigots.
- Drain and turn off sprinkler system.
- Prune trees and bushes away from home. Plant spring bulbs. Remove dead plants from vegetable garden.
- Put away seasonal furniture.
- Winterize and store summer lawn equipment. Drain gas from mowers and trimmers. Have blades sharpened so you’re ready for spring.
- Stock up on firewood.
- Rake leaves and fertilize lawn.

Have you paid your dues?
by Jana Sizemore, Treasurer
Remember our Homeowners Association dues are just $25 per calendar year.
It's important that each of us contributes so that the HOA can continue and improve efforts to keep Oakbrook a great neighborhood. Your dues help fund community events and covenant enforcement. Plus, dues-paying homeowners are eligible to win prizes in Oakbrook contests, like the annual Holiday Lights competition and the annual Pride in Oakbrook contest.
New this year are two options to make payment--via mail and online.
By Mail: Please mail payments to
Oakbrook HOA
P.O. Box 3544
Littleton, CO 80161-3544
Please be sure to include the property address with your payment.
Online: Electronic payments are now being accepted through PayPal.
There's a fee of $1.03 in addition to the dues owed to cover the additional cost of providing this service. We're excited to share that this option has already been used by several residences over the past several months.
