Welcome to the UV-Guard September newsletter. In this edition, we talk about the problems relating to hard water and announce our new sustainable hard water treatment system.

The problems with hard water

Hard water is a common problem throughout the world. It’s usually caused by dissolved calcium and magnesium minerals. In high concentrations, these can lead to limescale that can cause fouling on the quartz sleeve or thimble within UV systems. This fouling prevents UV light from penetrating the water or liquid and UV disinfection is significantly reduced. Scale build up can also cause the following issues:
  • Skin irritation and shower head operational problems
  • Blocked pipes
  • Premature appliance or industrial equipment failures
  • Scum rings around swimming pools and baths
  • Heating element deterioration and many more problems
Traditional water softeners are large, require regular maintenance, electricity and recharging of resins to ensure optimal performance. They also add salt (sodium chloride) or other chemicals (potassium chloride) which is unpleasant if consumed and can cause harm to the environment.

UV-Guard's Hard Water Conditioner - the HWC-Series

UV-Guard has developed a unique WaterMark certified hard water conditioner which reduces the scaling potential of hard water. This means that scale build-up is reduced and existing scaling is removed.
Unlike conventional water softeners, the HWC-Series does NOT require:
  • Electricity
  • Salts
  • Resins
  • Magnets
  • Backwashing OR
  • Maintenance
The benefits of this new system include:
  • Inline installation within the pipework – so there is no need for a tank
  • 24/7 operation – with no interruption to the hard water treatment process due to backwashing or resin regeneration
  • No operational costs – the system doesn’t require maintenance, power or chemicals (such as sodium chloride or potassium chloride)
  • Nothing is removed from the water - vital minerals for human health are maintained unlike with Reverse Osmosis systems
The HWC-Series offers a variety of models to suit specific hard water conditioning needs for the home and for commercial applications. To learn more, click on the links below to be taken to the respective HWC-Series web pages.
