WELCOME NEW B’MORE MEMBERS!

Last Sunday we welcomed the following to our church family:  Nancy Clark, Alison Gaddy, David Gaddy, Mike and Priscilla Moyer, Lauri Rickman, and Judi Robinson.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES BEGIN OCT. 15 and continue through April 18.  Classes will be held the 2nd Wednesday of every month Oct. through April from 6 - 8:30pm.  In addition to our weekly classes, each 3rd Sunday of the month will be Youth Sunday.  Our youth will serve in some area of leadership of our Sunday morning 11am service (helping with offering, greeting, etc).
Please share our confirmation schedule with your friends and family and invite youth, who will be 12 and over, by the end of the school year to come be part of our classes.

We need Adult mentors for our youth — let Sonny know if you can assist.

FAMILY FUN!
Eliada’s 2017 Annual Corn Maze is Sep 30 – Oct 31.  We are looking for someone to drive a group to this event on a date that fits his or her calendar.  Please let Anita know if you are interested in helping or if you want to go.  COSTS:  Adults (age 16+): $12; Children (age 4-15): $10

Thanks!
10 Community Families helped with food and $500 towards bills.

We provide food boxes throughout the month.  We are in need of peanut butter, jelly, beef stew, hearty soups, vegetables, meat, cereal, fruit, and spaghetti noodles. Your support is greatly appreciated!

WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY
is THIS Sunday, Oct. 1.  Your offering will empower international and international United Methodist students to change the world.

Join our 'N Rapport Small Group
for a 3-week topical study on Wednesday nights:
October 4, 11, and 18, at 7:10-8:30 pm.

TEXT:  "What is the Bible?" from "Exploring the Bible: The Dickinson Series," endorsed by UMC Bishop Will Willimon

COST: Order your copy at amazon.com
Kindle edition is $6, paperback is $10.98

We’ll take a brief look at what the Bible is, how we got it,
how it’s organized, and how to study it.
We will meet in the staff office on Oct. 4.  Let Anita know you hope to come: ageasayles@gmail.com or 828-216-6591

Brooks-Howell Home is hosting Kathy Bergen, Canadian Mennonite human rights activist with deep roots in Palestine/Israel, for a talk on Thursday, October 19, 3:15 p.m.

From her first visit in 1982 Kathy has been working with both local Palestinian Christian and Muslim communities and the Israeli peace movement and she  has long been a resource for study groups who come to the Middle East from universities, seminaries, colleges, and churches from around the world and continues to organize international conferences.  For 12 years she served as the National Coordinator of the Middle East Program of the Peace building in the national office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) in Philadelphia.

Her most recent visit to Palestine was this spring and she has much information to share on "Faith in Action for Human Rights for Palestinians" .

HOSTS NEEDED!  We have an amazing opportunity for Lee University's premier women's choir, Ladies of Lee, to perform at B'MORE on Saturday, Nov. 11.  To do this, we’d need to host about 55 college students in our homes for a night.  If you can host one or more students in your home (on a couch, an air mattress or in a bed), please find the sign up sheet in our lobby.

To learn more about this awesome choir, check out their
website.

SMALL GROUPS

We are a church of small groups (for discipleship and service in the community) with more groups forming across the year.  Talk with Anita to help you start a new group or find an existing one that works for you.  For more information about our Small Groups and events, contact Anita Sayles: (828)216-6591, ageasayles@gmail.com, or click here to see the groups currently being offered.

GEMS!
October sounds like a good time for another GEMS! (Greet, Eat, Meet — Sweet!)  Dinner Party.  If you can host a group in your home or in BUMC’s Events Center, please let Anita know.
Other dates are welcome too, if that suits better.
