Tractor Disc Benefit Dinner for
Audubon California’s Bobcat Ranch

   For four consecutive years, wildfires have ignited on or near Hwy 128 and quickly made their way to Audubon California’s Bobcat Ranch, a working cattle ranch and blue-oak conservation preserve. While the effects have been relatively minimal in our fire-adapted blue oak savannah, our infrastructure has taken a toll, and the surrounding communities have been white-knuckle witnesses to the fires in their backyard.
   After some fundraising last year, and excellent cooperation with CalFire, plans are underway for several prevention measures. These include adding extensive map data to the regional CalFire Prevention Plan Map, working with CalTrans to reduce roadsides to bare mineral soil, working with convict crews to install a “scrape” along the highway in the highest fuel-load locations, and last, an effort by Audubon California to install a disc-firebreak along the highway.
   While fundraising and hard work last year have enabled us to begin shopping for a tractor, we will also need a tractor disc to install the fire break. With your generous help (and don’t forget, you get dinner and an awesome night!), we can purchase a tractor disc and install a fire break next year to help protect Bobcat Ranch and the surrounding community!
