October is approaching this weekend, with DXC's Fall Kick-Off on Sunday and several training programs about to start, so check out updates and reminders below!




 
St. Scholastica Donates $20k to GANC
Last week, the College of St. Scholastica announced that they were making a $20,000 donation towards Grand Avenue Nordic Center!  This amazingly generous gift will help pave the way for new ski trail construction with snowmaking for the benefit of not only the CSS Saints Ski Team, but for the greater Duluth Nordic ski community, in partnership with the City of Duluth.  DXC would like to recognize and thank the College of St. Scholastica for this outstanding donation!

DXC Fall Kick-Off /
Lester-Amity Chalet Open House

Some updates and reminders regarding DXC's Fall Kick-Off and Open House at the Lester-Amity Chalet, happening this Sunday, October 1 from 1-5pm, which is only 4 days away!

   - Facebook event page is here
   - Hear updates about Grand Avenue Nordic Center from 2-3:30pm by Jim Filby Williams, Director of Public Administration for the City of Duluth
   - Try out adult and youth demo mountain bikes from Continental and E-bike demos from Ski Hut, along with bike ramps for skill sessions
   - Check out the improved Lester-Amity Chalet with several recent improvements including a new fireplace
   - Sign up kids for this winter's KidSki program (2018 registration opens on Oct 1)
   - Renew your DXC membership
   - Enjoy American folk music and family dancing led by caller/musician Terrence Smith
   - Event is FREE and kid-friendly!  There will be snacks!
   - Thank you to local sponsors Continental Ski & Bike, Ski Hut, Amity Coffee, and Engwalls
  





 
Wednesday Night Hillbounding
Wednesday Night Hillbounding at Chester Bowl returns next week on WEDNESDAY OCT 4!

   - 5:30-7:30pm on Wednesdays
   - October 4 - November 15
   - Free
   - Meet at Chester Bowl at base of downhill ski run, under the lights
   - Equipment:  Running shoes and classic-length poles
   - DXC adult coach Matt Lee will lead group

Sunday Rollerski Sessions
Jason Kask of DXC and Superior Performance by Kask will be leading rollerski workouts each Sunday morning in October, starting THIS SUNDAY OCT 1!

   - Sundays:  October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
   - 2.5 to 3 hour rollerski sessions
   - 9am-12pm
   - Meeting locations will vary between Brighton Beach to Munger Trail
   - Includes some drills / technique work
   - Open to high school skiers and all ages of adults; masters welcome!
   - Cost $65

KidSki Registration Opens Oct. 1
Sign up for the 2018 season of KidSkiDXC's popular Nordic ski youth program, THIS SUNDAY OCT 1!
   - KidSki is for youth ages 4-12
   - Location: Snowflake Nordic Center
   - Sunday afternoons in January-February 2018 (specific dates TBA)

Registration will be available online, or in person at the Lester-Amity Chalet Open House from 1-5pm on Oct. 1.



 
Tuesday Night Training Group
Join Nikolai Anikin for fall and winter Nordic ski training in his Tuesday Night Training Group:

   - October 17, 2017 to March 6, 2018
   - When:  Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm
   - Where:  Lester Park
   - Cost for 6-month program:  $300
   - Questions:  Contact Nikolai at 218-491-1560 (cell) or nikolai248@yahoo.com
   - Alternate skate and classic sessions, with technique work/drills including video analysis
   - Sessions include 30min warmup, 45-60min of ski specific instruction, and 15-30min cool down
   - Attend a free lesson, and if you like, stay for the fall/winter to work on technique and fitness!






 
Assistant Coach for Denfeld Nordic!

Duluth Denfeld High School is seeking one full-time or two half-time assistant coaches for the upcoming Nordic ski season.

Practice begins November 13, and the season ends by February 15. Candidates should have past experience with the sport and a desire to pass on their passion for skiing to young athletes.  While past coaching experience is not required, an ideal candidate would have experience working with high school students.

Responsibilities:
   - supervising large and small groups at practices
   - advising athletes on technique
   - assisting at races (across NE Minnesota)
   - being a positive role model and helping to develop a positive, welcoming community within the team
