Worth Mentioning
Trust but Always Verify
- A customer told us recently that he was a target of a rental property fraud attempt. He deposited a check from a person answering a "for rent" ad but before the check had a chance to clear, was contacted by the renter with an elaborate story about urgently needing a portion of that money back so he could cover moving expenses. In fraud attempts like these, the "renter" hopes the property owner believes the story and quickly sends the cash. When the rent check bounces due to insufficient funds, the property owner is out the money sent to the fraudster. Fortunately our customer sniffed out the fraud and did not send money. As expected, the deposit bounced. Always exercise caution before using funds from a deposited check until you know for sure that the check is good.

Another Rate Hike Coming?
- At its September 20th meeting, the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged. While we have no crystal ball, current expectations are that the fed will stick to its forecast of three rate hikes in 2017 with the third likely to come in December. Call your loan officer if you have questions about if or how this could impact you.
