Cochabamba, Bolivia Update
The Lord is changing lives of women trapped in prostitution in Bolivia. On August 22 after 5 days of reaching out to women in brothels and the health clinic, our team of volunteers had an evangelistic tea. The women came in one at a time and began to tell us about the painful situations in their lives.
The women are desperate for moral support and other ways to provide for their families. One had just been diagnosed with AIDS. Another woman, Helen, cried and told me that she locks her two daughters (11 and 5) in her rented room when she goes to the brothel each night. Viviana, was just about to start prostitution when we met her at the health clinic and after talking to us, she has decided to not enter that lifestyle!
Each of these women need the transformational power of Christ in their lives. Six of them prayed to receive Christ at the tea. Eloina, who lives at House of Hope Bolivia, was an example to the women of how she got out and is doing well with her bakery and hair salon.
Our team will immediately follow up with these women. Several women will begin the baking and catering classes this Saturday and we plan to get the sewing workshop started within the next two weeks. The construction of the room for the sewing workshop was completed last year but we still need help to get the sewing machines and other supplies to provide alternative income for the women and their families.
Women of Hope Honduras
The monthly outreach in San Pedro Sula Honduras was an overwhelming success. Lives of women living and selling their bodies on the streets are being changed by the love of Christ. One such woman, Nodi, has six children and lives with a man who beats her if she doesn't earn money to buy drugs and the glue that they both sniff. She listened intently while Raquel, a woman from House of Hope Nicaragua, shared her testimony of how God has brought her out of the painful life of prostitution, and how she and her children are doing well now. Nodi came forward to pray to receive Christ and begin a new life in Him. Our growing team of volunteers will follow up with her this week.
To provide Nodi and other women in our program a new source of income, we operate a baking project two days a week. After a short devotional, the women bake bread and desserts which they sell directly to the surrounding community. The profits are split among the women for each to take home that same day. We plan to set up a sewing program within the next month that would provide income for more women to come off the streets. Pray with us that the sewing program will become a much-needed reality.
Christmas
Christmas is a special time of year at House of Hope. There is a big party with music, dancing, decorations and gifts. A party like many of the women have never seen before. It is truly a sight to see! The party would not be possible without the generous gifts of our donors.
