What would you like to see Georgia do with an extra billion and a half dollars in the state budget? Equip our schools with better technology? Widen roads and improve traffic flow? Provide health insurance to more people who don’t have it? Recruit businesses to provide stable jobs now and into the future? Today, that billion and a half is paying for prisons and other corrections expenses to support the state’s imprisonment rate, the 9th highest in the country. 
The National Incarceration Association (NIA) is an Atlanta-based group that brings together individuals, families, and organizations who are seeking change in our national and state criminal justice practices. We believe that many Americans are unaware of the real costs and the real losses that result from imprisoning vast numbers of our citizens. In the last decade alone, the opioid epidemic has swelled prison populations and sapped state budgets. NIA’s goal is to raise public awareness of the impact mass incarceration has on all our lives, and to encourage action to achieve change.

Without the financial support of individuals like you, NIA would be unable to continue this important work. Your tax-deductible donation now, or your regular giving plan or endowment into the future, will make it possible for NIA to continue educating elected officials and business leaders about sensible policies that maintain public safety and cut the prison population at the same time, support families as they try to navigate the system, and enable corrections officials to build more successful inmates and reduce re-arrest rates.

NIA, along with other organizations that are dedicated to improving national and state criminal justice practices, has helped achieved important successes, including increasing the number of states that Ban the Box* and that offer diversion programs or drug rehab for certain offenders.
