Fundraising Inspiration

The Run for Annie Team

The Run for Annie team has truly inspired us all here at the de Castella Run 2 Mend Minds.  Their dedication to raising funds and awareness for mental health research has been overwhelming.

"In January 2015, we lost our we lost our daughter, sister, niece Annie to suicide. For anyone who has experienced mental illness, either personally or via a loved one, it is clear that it can be complex and sometimes an all-encompassing challenge that can affect all facets of life.
Although our loss has been devastating, it has enabled us to recognize that there is very little known about the complexity of mental illness and very few channels to offer support in the most crucial of times.
In an effort to raise funds for mental health research, we organised a team to participate in the DE CASTELLA RUN at the Kew Boulevard, Melbourne. Not only is this a fantastic way to raise funds for mental health research, it also enables us to spread education and awareness on the topic, whilst reducing the social stigma that surrounds mental illness."

The Run for Annie team have done an amazing job engaging with a range of local businesses in Townsville where Annie lived. The year Annie died the Townsville Donut King, had "Annie Week"; and the staff are wore pink hats, selling "Annie's" doughnuts and raising funds. In Annie's memory the quest for Mental Health has filtered down from Townsville to Melbourne and is now a dedicated part of the de Castella Run every year.

Running from the heart allows you to give that bit extra effort you didn't expect to have. This team wears a touch of pink, Annie's favourite colour!

Thank you Run for Annie team for your commitment to the run and mental health research. We cannot thank you enough.

Where will my money go?
 - To Help Mend Minds!
DE CASTELLA RUN is proud to partner with Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre (MAPrc) to raise awareness and funds for mental illness.

Shifting the frontiers…

MAPrc conduct world class research, clinical treatments, advocacy, education and training to make real improvements to the lives of people suffering from mental illnesses. They are currently helping people with bi-polar, schizophrenia, severe depression, borderline personality disorder, acquired brain injury (ABI), Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and improving access to quality mental health services.

The research they perform will make a real change to the lives of people with mental illness, their families and their communities.

MAPrc is one of Australia's largest clinical research centers in psychiatry. It is integrated with clinical practice based in the Alfred Hospital in affiliation with Monash University.

1 in 5 Australians will have their lives touched by serious mental health illness.  Currently at least one third of people don't respond adequately to conventional treatments.
