Dear Boston-area friends--

We are thrilled to tell you that our friends at the Harvard Kennedy School have been able to reschedule the event featuring Zohra Drif, heroine of Algeria's national-liberation struggle, who will now be speaking there at 4pm on Monday October 2. Details of the event, and of the bookselling/signing opportunity that follows it, are here.

All members of the public are warmly invited to attend this hstoric event, part of Mme. Drif's current speaking tour "Memories of Algeria's Freedom Struggle", which is being organized by Just World Educational.

Given the short lead-time for the Kennedy School event, we would much appreciate anything you can do to share this news with your friends and networks. You can use these buttons to do so:

It is possible that we may be able to arrange another public event for Mme. Drif while she is in the Boston area. If you are interested in helping to organize this (or any other aspect of her visit to Boston), please let me know as soon as possible!

IBA coverAs I hope you know, back in 1957 Mme. Drif played a key role in the conflict that the French named "The Battle of Algiers"-- a role that was memorialized in the film of that name later made by Gillo Pontecorvo.

She comes to the United States this year as the recently retired Vice President of Algeria's Senate and as the author of a memoir newly published in English under the title Inside the Battle of Algiers: Memoir of a Woman Freedom Fighter.

The book was translated from the French original by Andrew Farrand-- and has a powerful Foreword penned by Mme. Drif's former FLN colleague, the renowned international diplomatist Lakhdar Brahimi.

Mme. Drif launched her (redesigned) speaking tour of the United States this past week with four fabulously well-attended events-- at the Wilson Center and Georgetown University, in Washington DC; and at New York University and Alwan Arts Center in New York.

You can see the report the Wilson Center produced about her visit, along with a charming photo gallery, here. And you can see the Photo Album we've been compiling of the events (and the spirit) of her tour, here.

Warmest wishes to you-- and I hope I may see you when I accompany Mme. Drif to the Boston area just a few days from now--

Helena.
