NEWS

WOD brings awareness to childhood cancer

Leading into Childhood Cancer Month for September, on Aug 19, BCF held special WODs to honor members in our own CrossFit family affected by childhood cancer.

During classes, we accepted donations to benefit Cade Sullivan, 6-month-old son of Tyler's brother and former Badger coach, Adam. Cade was recently diagnosed when Stage 2 cancer cells were found in his renal tissues. While those tissues came out when his kidney was removed, he is currently on 18 weeks of chemo. Members donated more than $500 to Cade.

The WODs were also to honor the strength of 4-year-old Bentley, son to members Angela Dodge and Tony Guzzardo (seen above). Bentley was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, which is the detachment of the retina, and had to have his left eye removed, as well as go through chemo. A fundraiser was held in his honor in July, and $1000 was donated to the family.

Last, the WODs were to remember member Jenn Aldrich's son, Jake, who succumbed to cancer 8 years ago. While his journey was a heart-wrenching one, Jenn keeps Jake's memory alive through blood drives, volunteering and fundraisers of her own. You can read her powerful story here: http://badgercrossfit.com/jenn-aldrich-jakes-story/

Thank you for all who came out to support and honor these little heroes and their families.

Annual golf outing up to par

Badger members took their fitness to the golf course for the second annual Badger Golf Outing, held at Currie Park Golf Course Sept 10. More than 20 athletes split into foursomes for this scramble, which included cart, breakfast and lunch, and prizes for games like longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt. Special thanks to member Will Erik for organizing and getting snazzy, personalized balls. Until next year!

Badgers bring in friends, family to WOD

More than a dozen athletes recently exposed friends and family to Badger CrossFit's community and culture during the Bring-a-Friend workout, held Sept. 16. Coach Tyler put them through an individualized workout, combining fun, fitness and a little fatigue and showed them what BCF is all about.

BCF launches five-week nutrition challenge

On Sept 23, certified Lifestyle Nutritional Coach Becca Chilczenkowski hashed out nutrition basics and macro strategy during her free seminar to kick off Badger CrossFit's 5-week nutrition challenge. At the seminar, those participating in the challenge received an InBody 270 Body-Fat Test. The challenge offers participants personalized macro coaching with Becca, geared specifically toward his/her goals, as well as check-ins, community and advice. While the gym challenge already started, Becca is always available to answer questions. Email her at becca@NutritionIsALifestyle.com.

Coach Tyler instructs strict pull-up clinic

Strict-pull-up hopefuls took advantage of Coach Tyler's pull-up clinic, held Sept 9. Tyler explained the basic technique of an effective pull-up and gave everyone an opportunity to find their baseline during a 5-rep max test. The clinic concluded with a 30-day program take-away. "If you are consistent with this program, I guarantee you WILL get a strict pull-up. You have to with the amount of this volume," Tyler confirmed. Missed the clinic? Check out the pull-up program here or email tyler@badgercrossfit.com with questions.

Girl power: BCF hosts Little, Big Sisters

Badger CrossFit, in partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, recently invited girls and their "Big Sister" friends to a workout promoting fitness and health. Coach Tina put them through a partner workout, which taught them about CrossFit and general functional fitness and proved women can empower themselves to be strong and get moving.

Join Badger's Committed Club

The Committed Club is a public showing of your commitment to fitness and health through consistency. To be a part of the committed club, you must RSVP and check in to Zen Planner at BCF 20 times or more in one month. This includes FUNCTION, CrossFit and the Weightlifting Club (not Mobility or Open Gym).

At the end of each month, BCF will list everyone who made it on the Web site along with the number of times attended/checked-in next to their name. BCF will select one athlete at random from this list for a special little prize. All you need to do is be consistent and RSVP. New chances begin October.

BUILDING UPDATES

Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve your home away from home! This quarter, after doing months of research, we pulled the trigger and purchased the queen mother of fans. When installed, this massive 24-foot fan will not only keep you cool, but circulate and push the heat toward the floor during those icy winter WODs.

We also recently sold a plethora of well-loved barbells to make way for new, branded ones, due in the gym later October.

We recently added two more barbell racks for personal barbells. There is a new sign above each rack letting you know these are for PERSONAL use only. This is personal property, yet we still see people ignore the sign and use them. They are not owned by the gym. They have been personally paid for by certain members and are expensive pieces of equipment. Be mindful and use only what belongs to you or the gym.
