Mapleview Drive East construction nearing completion

The work on Mapleview Drive East is progressing well, though the contractor has faced several challenges in completing this project per the original schedule due to the wet weather, unanticipated underground utility conflicts, and groundwater and soil conditions. The construction project is expected to be substantially completed by end of October 2017, weather permitting.

Have an escape plan and practise it!

In a fire, every second counts. Always plan two ways out of every room. Fire Prevention Week is October 9–15 and Barrie Fire and Emergency Service reminds residents to have an escape plan and practice it. Join firefighters for events throughout the week including a community fire drill day, a special movie night at Galaxy Cinemas, a pancake breakfast and more – all to raise awareness about fire safety.

Reminder to cyclists: follow rules of the road

Cycling is a form of active transportation but cyclists are considered vehicles under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and have the same rights and responsibilities on public roadways as motorists. Cyclists: please remember to ride on the right in the same direction as traffic (far enough from the road edge to keep a straight line), ride single file except when passing, and obey all traffic laws, signs, and signals. Please refer to MTO’S Cycling Skills Guide for more information.
