As we move into the first weekend of October and the leaves begin changing colors, I am excited about what we have seen at every level on the football field this fall throughout the Washington area.

This weekend brings a series of elite high school matchups, with DeMatha playing Gonzaga and St. John's facing Good Counsel. There have been a slew of intriguing high school matchups so far this season, especially the public vs. private games that seemed to have fallen off the landscape before this fall.

On the college level, Maryland lost its top two quarterbacks, but went on the road to Minnesota this past weekend to register an important victory. And Virginia is 3-1 entering ACC play, coming off its resounding victory at Boise State. Way to go, Coach Durkin and Coach Mendenhall!

Finally, while the Redskins couldn't pull out the victory this past Monday in Kansas City, I think we can all agree that the team has made significant progress and I couldn't be more excited for the rest of the season.

Here's to another great weekend of football!
