We're close to 15,000 subscribers of the Dispatch! 🎉 Thanks so much for following along, everyone! Connecting with you on a regular basis is certainly a highlight of my week.

With a ~40% open and ~20% click rate, this newsletter is already performing much better than the industry average. But instead of boasting about inflated numbers, I'd like to do an occasional spring clean (i.e. delete inactive accounts) and make sure that those who subscribe actually want to continue to receive this email. Does anyone know of a good way/tool for maintaining a healthy list without accidentally removing subscriber who, for instance, have tracking disabled?

Anyway, enjoy this weeks issue! Don't miss our special discount for the Baron Fig backpack below. 🎒

Apps

The School of Life App

Become emotionally intelligent

The School of Life is one of my favourite YouTube channels. I can honestly say that I'm a better (functioning) human because of Alain de Botton's amazing work. Their new app offers an even easier way to dig up relevant content.

Pod

People-centric calendar app

Some lovely copy writing on their website: "Pod goes beyond telling you what's next – it shows you who is next. It’s relationship management fused into your calendar. It’s for people who know a lot of people, and want to keep it all together."

Piwik

Own your analytics data

Don't wont to share your website's user data with the big GOOG? Piwik lets you own your user insights. It comes as a free, self-hosted version or a cloud-based, subscription plan.

Readwise

Gear

Baron Fig Backpack

A slim, accessible everyday bag

I'm excited about office gear supplier Baron Fig soon releasing their first backpack: "Opens flat, creates an instant workspace, and has swing pockets for easy access. It’s a simpler, leaner, lighter, and more enjoyable backpack." Dispatch readers enjoy a discount on pre-orders: the first ten orders get 20% off with code OFFSCREEN20 and once they've be used everyone still gets 10% off with code OFFSCREEN10!

Terrible People

A magazine about why people do stupid things

I'm very intrigued by this new magazine: "Have you ever wondered why people do stupid things? Why they are really horrible sometimes? And what the hell their problem is? Well, so have we." Stack has a nice breakdown of why it's a very promising (and may I add timely) title.

When life-changing money, isn’t…

I generally treat articles in which already rich people talk about choosing x over money with a certain amount of scepticism. This post by Wil Reynolds confirms that, but at the very least if offers insights into his decision-making process as he rejected a multi-million dollar windfall.

What Science Is, and How and Why It Works

I'm an utter Neil deGrasse Tyson fanboy. This post of his (hosted on Facebook) is a great example of why we need entertaining, fun scientists like him to push against the current trend of scientific ignorance. (If you don't know him, this inspiring interview answer of his is one of my favourites.)

How to Become an Entrepreneur

A human take on entrepreneurship by The School of Life – if you needed some more convincing of the quality of their content: "That human beings are still so deeply dissatisfied is both a social tragedy – and an ongoing provocation and inspiration to anyone longing to develop their entrepreneurial capacities."

I always wondered why somebody didn't do something about that. Then I realized: I am somebody.
