ICFJ Survey on The State of Technology in Global Newsrooms

Global Standard for Ethical and Quality Journalism

 
International Media Support, has launched a global standard for quality journalism drawing upon policies and strategies pioneered by the Ethical Journalism Network. The new strategy responds to increasing concerns over so-called fake news and the rise of technology-driven propaganda which have blurred the lines between reliable journalism and misinformation.

Power Shifts. Media Freedom and the Internet Symposium


This year's Forum Media and Development (FoME) Symposium will focus on the role of the Internet in democracy. Censorship, online surveillance and on-line threats are a growing trend, and harmful to journalists worldwide. The symposium, hosted by iRights in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung will take place in Berlin on the 17th and 18th of November 2017.

Media Indaba Africa 2017

Media Indaba Africa is hosted by the continent’s largest data journalism and civic technology federation, Code for Africa, in partnership with Hacks/Hackers Africa. The conference will take place from November 23rd to the 25th 2017. It will bring together hacktivists and data journalists from leading media and tech brands around the world for three days of knowledge sharing and project creation.

Content Analysis of the Emerging Syrian Media Sector
 
The Samir Kassir Foundation (SKeyes Center) will be hosting a special event in Beirut entitled "Journalism in Crisis: A Content Analysis of the Emerging Media Sector in Syria" on October 20th. SKeyes has conducted a comprehensive study, monitoring the work of 17 Syrian media online publications from January to June 2017. The findings of the study will be presented during the event.

10th Global Investigative Journalism Conference Program Announced
 
The GIJC17 program with over 100 workshops, panel discussions and special events will be taking place in Africa for the first time in ten years. From 16th to 19th November 2017, Johannesburg will be the center of investigative journalism talks, with more then a 100 journalist representatives from around the world. Schedule, speakers, attendees and ticket info can all be found on the official website.  There is also an app that can help you coordinate your conference schedule and keep up-to-date with everything you might miss.

What Works? The 2018 SBCC Summit

 
The 2018 International Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Summit will take place in in Nusa Dua, Indonesia, from the 16th to the 20th April, 2018. The Summit is organized to bring better understanding of what works in shifting social norms, changing behaviours and in amplifying the voice of those who have most at stake in the success of development efforts.
