Get Involved In a New Renewable Energy Enterprise in the Hope Valley

Are you interested to explore the possibility of setting up a renewable energy enterprise on a not-for-profit basis in Derbyshire? A group has recently formed to do just this, along similar lines to Sheffield Renewables. The group was originally focused on the Hope Valley area but has now extended the area covered by their scheme to the wider North Derbyshire area including Buxton, the rest of High Peak District, Bakewell, Derbyshire Dales, and Chesterfield. If you live in this area and would be interested in joining a steering group, please contact Jeremy Wight on mandyjeremy@yahoo.co.uk.

He Huffed and He Puffed… But the Eco Homes Stayed Warm!

Looking for a different sort of day out? Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire residents who have followed in the footsteps of the three little piggies and live in homes built from straw, wood, brick…. and also stone, are inviting you to visit them. Fortunately none of the houses will fall down if you huff and puff, but they do all have fantastic eco features that have saved their owners money and kept them warm and cosy.

All of the homes are involved in the brand new Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Eco Open Homes (NDEOH) ‘View By Appointment’ initiative. An Edwardian brick house with solid wall insulation, a straw bale extension on a Victorian terrace, a modern timber framed bungalow, and a 1760’s stone-built house with many eco features are all available to visit by appointment with the householder. This is an opportunity to see real solutions in real homes, done on a range of budgets, and have a chat with the people who live there about their experiences of having this work done.

Find out more and book an appointment to visit any of the homes: http://bit.ly/2xdj72X

If you have a home you think people would be suitable for project and would like to be involved, contact: caroline.harmon@mea.org.uk / 07748 508704.

Electric Nation Trial of Home Smart Chargers for Electric Vehicles

Electric Nation are looking for up to 700 people buying or leasing new electric vehicles to take part in a trial to ensure the UK can charge electric vehicles at peak times as the numbers of electric vehicles rise. Trial participants will get a free smart charger installed at their home. The smart charger is capable of providing demand control services, including altering the rate of charging of your car. The smart charger is much faster and safer than a regular electricity socket and is yours to keep after the end of the Electric Nation trial.

The trial is taking place across most, but not all, of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire – enter your postcode on the website to see if your area is included in the trial:  http://bit.ly/2kkRlM4

Consultation on East Midlands Train Franchise

The Department for Transport is currently holding a public consultation ahead of selecting a company to run the service from August 2019. Recently the government cancelled plans to electrify the train line between Kettering and Sheffield. Electrifying the line would reduce carbon emissions and improve local air pollution, which would have health benefits. Local groups have since been campaigning for plans to electricity the line to be reinstated. Have your say on what should happen in the consultation, which closes on 11th October: http://bit.ly/2xdjMBJ
