My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady, presented by Killian Hill Christian School on November 2nd and 3rd, has often been described as the “most perfect musical ever written.” The score by composer Frederick Loewe and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner (based on the playwright George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion) are among the most successful to emerge from American musical theatre. Songs such as “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” and “The Rain in Spain” have been musical theatre favorites for many years.

Director Mrs.Terry Fulbright did not plan to do this particular musical until late summer of 2017. “I wasn’t as familiar with this show as I was with the other nine Broadway musicals we’ve done, but after reading the script I fell in love with the comedic storyline. It is pure joy to see these students bond with their characters and see the individual onstage development. The audience is going to thoroughly enjoy this production!”

Lead characters include a variety of students who’ve had big show experience here at Killian Hill and those who are new to this type of theatre. Junior Bella Schade stars as Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who seeks help from the British upper-class phonetics expert, Professor Henry Higgins (played by junior Jacob Moore), and seeks to speak “more genteel” and “raise her station” in 1912 London.  Senior Nicholas Campbell plays Colonel Pickering, a retired British officer and author of “Spoken Sanskrit”. Eliza Doolittle’s potential to become “a lady” becomes the object of a bet between Higgins and Pickering.
Tenth grader Lauren Ackleh plays Higgins’ mother, with ninth grade newcomer Eleana McDaniel cast as Higgins’ housekeeper. Eliza’s father, dustman Alfred P. Doolittle, is played by junior Alex Hunt, with freshman West Durden portraying Freddy Enysford-Hill, an upper class young man who becomes smitten with Eliza. A strong cast rounds out the roles of Mrs. Eynsford-Hill (junior Aimee Tewes), Doolittle’s friends Harry and Jamie (Connor Rygh and Will Johns), and Mrs. Hopkins played by junior Jacqueline Lamothe. Multiple talented singers and dancers from the high school choir complete the cast of thirty-five and delight the audience with “Ascot Gavotte,” “With a Little Bit of Luck,” and “Get Me to the Church on Time.”  Mr. Greg Habegger, vocal music teacher for the Secondary school, will again use his skill to direct the orchestra consisting of members of Killian Hill Baptist Church’s orchestra and two guest artists.

We hope you will be able to join us at one of the perfomances! Performances are Thursday & Friday nights, November 2nd and 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The cost is $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family. Tickets are available Tuesday, October 3rd in the Secondary school office.
