Fall has met us with a strong wind, rain and sea fog in Hirtshals but nothing unusual about that. However receiving a 61-ton propeller shaft in our workshop is quite unusual.

61-ton heavy propeller shaft crossing the Atlantic Sea for straightening
Today is among few when we later this evening will receive this 61 ton heavy propeller shaft from the U.S. The shaft measures Ø1310/860x12560mm and weighs 61 ton. It was shipped to our workshop by sea and by special truck from the quay in Hirtshals the few kilometres to our workshop.  We look forward to writing more about this case in our next newsletter.

Arctic Viking is back in Hirtshals for service on freezing plant among others
I went onboard yesterday to take pictures of our service engineer´s work still ongoing and had a talk with the 2 chief engineers Búgvi Eliasen and Johan Dam. Arctic Viking is back for service and repair of the freezing plant including modification of the oil system. We have installed 2 new capacitors and carried out various repair on the main engine and other various repairs.

I asked the reason for coming back and both engineers said unanimously “Not many companies can provide the knowhow and high expertise within RSW plants as your team. Therefore:  Quality and good service is the reason”. That answer made my Monday and happy to share some pictures from the job onboard the fishing trawler Arctic Viking who will be ready to go back at Sea within few days.

New rudder stock with stainless steel liner for China container vessel
M/V Thorco Asia followed by on-site work

With our large stock of classed steel we can offer quick delivery time for new manufacturing. Thorco Asia needed a new rudder stock Ø551 x 4356 mm with a stainless steel liner.  Manufacturing time was only 7 running days. We took care of logistic and the rudder stock was sent in a wooden box with airfreight to China followed by our service team who carried out machining and fitting of the rudder stock into the rudder blade on-site.

Remind you of our wide range of special tool/equipment for mobile machining and that you can always check our stock list if you need new material.
M/V Kvam
Complete renovation of 2 pcs. of propeller equipment from the vessel M/V Kvam included our laser cladding technique, when we welded the propeller blade bearing. Have a look at the welding and following machining in this short video below. For this job we also manufactured new sliding blocks.

If you should like to know more about our Laser Cladding please contact our Project Manager and Certified European Welding Specialist Peter Pallesen at Peter.pallesen@marineshaft.com
