Wild Edible Mushroom Foray and Potluck
at Diamond Lake Park

Saturday, October 14th, join the Prairie States Mushroom Club as they explore the woods near Diamond Lake for fall mushrooms. Note that we will meet at the Foster Center at the South end of Diamond Lake, and car pool or walk to the woods from there. The mushroom foray will start at 10:00 am and go until about noon. Dress for the conditions as we will be going off trail. Boots, long pants, long-sleeve shirt or jacket, a hat, and bug spray are used by most. A basket and a pocket knife are also handy tools to bring. We will hunt for all thing fungi, including edible and non-edible mushrooms.

After the foray, we will meet back at the Foster Center to identify our finds, and have a pot-luck lunch. If you bring a dish to share, it does not need to contain mushrooms. After lunch, there will be a short program showing how to use the mushroom club photo-hosting website. The annual meeting of the PSMC is last on the agenda. While the public is encouraged to attend the meeting, only club members are allowed to vote. If you have any questions please contact Emily Klein at eklein@poweshiekcounty.org or 641-260-6429.
