That moment when the evening radio broadcast doesn't mention foreboding frosts in Tommy's forecast before the Trail 1033's "Floydian Slip" hour ... even though that's all that's in yer mind.
And you realize why you're growing food with people who are equally (if not more) on the ball, reacting to the incoming opening of skies and limited cloud cover in a myriad of beautiful ways:
•ditch pump and sprinklers working overtime from midnight on to glaze semi-sensitive outdoor crops like mustards with a Dunkin' Donuts-thick glaze of ice; check
•3 temporary caterpillar tunnels installed by Kenny and Barret atop actively growing carrots to preserve the sex appeal of bunching carrots throughout October; check
•96'x30' high tunnel secured and propane heat pulsing to save tomatoes; check
•two truck and two trailer loads of onions and winter squash successfully cured and out of caterpillar tunnels; safely unloaded for 1/2 day with three coop workers; now in our landlord's cellar; check
•high-value sensitive crops like lettuce heads, young kale and chard and fennels row covered in steel greenhouse; check
•sides of leased greenhouse tunnel in Hamilton closed by 11:45pm to protect fresh-germinated arugula; check and check
How's that for some one-days worth of work highlights? Oh, did I mention this was on a CSA pickup Tuesday?
I guess what I'm trying to illustrate is that you hired us for a reason; we're professionals working for you even when you might not even have been alerted to the incoming threats posed to yer food.
You should trust that you'll get more than just beets in your Winter CSA Share.

As I said, half-jokingly, at the Compost Comedy event last weekend: what's not funny is starvation in the winter.
Sure, we live in a time when starvation is not the ultimate existential threat to Westerners. But nourishing your body from your place is something you understand and you take a certain amount of pride in... You've proven as much these last 18 weeks. Hopefully we can continue to serve you in this same way for 10 more weeks, starting at the end of October!
Best,
