  Head's Blog

What is an effective learner? Here at Skippers we have been considering this question as a staff body over the past few months. Much has been written on the subject: being successful in any aspect of the curriculum requires a number of key characteristics. An effective learner in our school is: Curious, Adaptable, Resilient, Self-disciplined, Engaged, Reflective, Positive, Challenge seeking.

Joseph writes with maturity about Freedom

Freedom is the feeling of
Calm, of happiness, of glee.
Freedom is the sight of the moon,
The stars, of beautiful white light.
Freedom is the time of holidays,
Of celebration, of days without school.
Freedom is a withheld right to the slave,
a luxury to the liberated,
an undeserved privilege to the terrorist.

Hands on approach in Year 4 Science lesson

Year 4 are learning about the digestive system in Science this term. To help understand what happens to food once it has been eaten, the children carried out a messy practical activity!
First we crushed up some crackers and a banana, mixing them with water to represent the saliva in our mouths.

Launch of Video and Coaching Project to
Support Teachers’ Professional Development

Here at Skippers, we recognise that our staff are fundamental in enabling us to provide an exceptional learning experience for our pupils. One of the benefits of being part of Bellevue Education is the professional development opportunities available to staff.

Over the past 12 months, Sam Selby, Education Director at Bellevue Education, has been piloting a project focused on developmental CPD through coaching and the use of video technology to enable teachers to reflect on and develop their teaching practice.
