About St. John the Beloved

Founded in 1913 as a Mission of St. James Catholic Church, St. John became a parish in 1951. Mr. John Carlin dreamed of a church on the western boundary of his own property in rural El Nido, Virginia. In 1912, his son, William M. Carlin, gave a half-acre of land for the chapel that would serve less than a dozen families. The Most Reverend Denis J. O'Connell, Bishop of Richmond, laid its corner stone on the afternoon of September 21, 1913. Now over 5,000 parishioners call St. John their spiritual home. More than a century later, we are still on a mission. Join us!
