An air of positivity
I could not be more proud of the students and staff at John Hanson.
As I walked around the school last night at Open Evening I was overwhelmed by the positive comments from parents of year 5 and 6 children. They arrived in their hundreds from 28 different primary and junior schools to see what you as parents experience via your children on a day-to-day basis. So much so that we ran out of car parking space!
To a person, what our visitors had to say was positive in the extreme, and many of them have now taken up the opportunity to come back during the day and see the school in action.
This is testament to your work as parents of students currently at John Hanson. The most vehement praise was reserved for the year 11 prefects who did a wonderful job showing visitors around, and students from all year groups who supported staff in classrooms.
It is only with your continuing support that our students, your children, continue to impress both us and all the other adults they come across within the school and in the local community.
Have an enjoyable weekend with your children.
Regards

We did it!
Thank you for all your kind donations; we have raised £6694.72 so far.
On Tuesday of this week, Mrs Bailey, Miss Sherriff and ten of our students travelled to Sherfield School nr Hook to receive training from members of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Youth Commission. The training is designed to help students recognise the signs of cyber safety issues amongst peers, such as grooming, stalking and trolling, and to know what to do to stay safe.
The students we took were selected from application forms they completed following a launch assembly about the exciting opportunity to be part of the Cyber Ambassador scheme. These ten students (from Years 8-11) are now ‘fully fledged’ cyber ambassadors for the school and will share their new knowledge with their fellow students through a series of assemblies and tutor time activities. They will also be able to offer support and advice on cyber concerns to those who want to talk things through with someone their own age.
John Hanson School is one of seven secondary and eight primary schools that have signed up to pilot the Youth Commission’s Cyber Ambassador Scheme.

MTB Racer supported by bursary
Freddie Horner took part in last weekend’s inter-regional MTB event. The south region came 12th out of 14 teams but the four girls and four boys worked very hard in the events and bonded very well. Freddie was picked for all the events.
Freddie has worked hard in the nationals this year - his best result being 17th place travelling all over the country for these races, and only being in his first year, in a two year category of riders.
The National MTB races in 2018 will take place in Pebbles in Scotland, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Suffolk and mid Wales, the National Championship weekend is at Hadleigh Essex which was the 2012 Olympic mountain bike course.
The Horner family are very grateful to Randall Parker Foods and John Hanson for their bursary contribution towards Freddie’s quest to be a top MTB racer.

Music Crew is open to all age groups in the school and is an opportunity for students to meet and perform music together.
This may be as a large group, but also as smaller groups depending on musical interests.
Our aim is to meet up and have fun with music
The school choir is part of MusicCrew - so come along on a Wednesday for a really good sing - and bring a friend!!
