Council approved the 2018 operating plans and budgets for the Lakewood-West Colfax Business Improvement District and the Alameda Corridor Business Improvement District. Council also approved the service plan for the Indy Oak TOD Metropolitan District.

An overdue welcome home
The military creed of leaving no soldier behind takes on new meaning when it comes to veterans who have died but remain unclaimed for burial. Thanks to a volunteer collaborative effort with strong ties to Lakewood, these veterans are receiving dignity, honor and closure through the Final Roll Call – Honor’s Committal Program. Cider Days
Celebrate Lakewood’s agricultural heritage with live entertainment, activities and tasty harvest treats at Cider Days, Oct. 7 and 8 at Lakewood Heritage Center. Lakewood is having its fifth annual citywide cleanup in partnership with arc Thrift Stores to provide an opportunity for residents to clear out unwanted appliances and other items, which arc Thrift will reuse or recycle. Full moon hike
Join Bear Creek Lake Park’s naturalist at 6 p.m. on Oct. 5 for a Full Moon Hike. Wear comfortable hiking shoes, dress for weather conditions and bring water. Music of the Scottish Isles

Jeffco University for parents, community members
Jeffco Public Schools is offering a new “citizens’ academy,” where parents/guardians of students and other community members can learn more about education in Jeffco. The goal of the program is to engage the Jeffco community in the school district’s strategic direction and purpose. The program begins in October and runs through February, meeting one Wednesday a month from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Applications are due by midnight, Oct. 16, with the first session starting Oct. 18. State awards Jeffco $800K grant
The Colorado State Board of Education has awarded $825,164 to Jeffco Public Schools from the School Health Professionals Grant Program. This state grant program uses revenues from recreational marijuana taxes to support an increase in school health professionals. Jeffco Public Schools will use the funds over a three-year span to hire six elementary school social emotional learning specialists and three full-time high school nurses, all new positions. Library starts celebration of craft beer in Jeffco
"Stouts and Stories, Ales and Tales" is a six-week celebration of Jefferson County beer and books with special events, tap parties, contests, prizes and a passport beer tour. The event is an innovative way to reconnect adults with the libraries and to support economic development. Residents can pick up Beer Tour Passports starting Oct. 1. Green home tour

Help prevent teen suicide
