Trail News & Information

Moore Park Master Trails Plan

We at KTA are looking forward to the final report of the Moore Park Master Trails Plan. By now most of you have heard of this high-profile project. It’s a big deal because it’s the first trail inventory in Klamath Falls City Parks history.

The current trail system grew up over a long period of time and was built mainly by mountain bikers. Over the past several years, City Parks and KTA have been discussing what to do with various trails – how to fix the bad ones and where to build new ones. From these discussions came the Moore Park Master Trails Plan.

Parks hired Chris Bernhardt, a well-respected trail consultant. Chris rode the trails and held several public meetings for input. He produced a draft plan with 18 proposed trail improvements that are available for public comment. Here are a few:
  • Reconstruct portions of Klamath Ridgeview Trail to make it beginner-level.
  • Fix Blueberry and adjacent trails to remove it from private property and to make it less susceptible to water damage; improvements to result in beginner-level trail.
  • Develop mountain bike skills area.
We will use Chris’ plan as a blueprint for trail projects. His suggestions are not set in concrete, so they might change over time. But they will give us a good path to follow to improve the Moore Park trail system. We all look forward to the challenge and to digging in the dirt.

Other News:
Kingsley Field Duathlon

KTA was pleased to help with this past weekend’s duathlon organized and crewed by Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base.

There were six events: two long and short run/bike races plus a 10k and 5k run and a smaller costume run. The long events started at the Klamath Ridgeview Trail, where participants then went to the Running Y, hopped on their bikes and peddled like mad then switched to running for the finish.

Thanks to Dan Gailis for setting up the course for the 10k run. We’d also like to thank Ed Beverly for setting up our booth and JoAnn Clifton and Dennis Taugher for manning the booth. And a big thanks to Jared Boyer and his crew from Kingsley for all their hard work in planning and crewing this community event.

The weather was perfect for this event: sunny and no cold winds. KTA will be a beneficiary of any left over funds.
