Welcome to the second edition of Cover Drive, the newsletter of The Chappell Foundation.
GRATIFYING SUPPORT FOR GOLF DAY
The inaugural fund-raising event of The Chappell Foundation was a Golf Day, organised at the sublime Elanora Country Club in Sydney. The response was heart-warming and entries had to be closed off.

107 golfers participated, including golfing great Wayne Grady, who flew in from the Gold Coast. Both Greg and Trevor Chappell also played.

Wayne Grady shared his career highlights and presented the golf prizes.

In an impassioned address, Darshak Mehta, Chairman of The Chappell Foundation, committed Foundation to supplement the efforts of other NGOs, such as ‘BackTrack’, who are doing remarkable work at the coalface in tackling homelessness and assisting those at risk.

At the high spirited post-dinner discussion which followed the golf, Australian cricket coach Darren Lehmann and former Australian cricket captains Ian and Greg Chappell chatted about the Ashes, amongst other cricketing topics, with MC Stephanie Brantz.

Greg Chappell explained the reasons he was drawn to founding a charity to help combat homelessness and thanked participants for their fantastic support.

It was a highly successful day which netted the Chappell Foundation more than $50,000.
‘BACKTRACK’ TO BE ASSISTED
Bernie Shakeshaft, founder of Armidale-based NGO “BackTrack”, was our special guest at the Golf Day Dinner. In an extremely impressive Q & A session with Steph Brantz, Bernie explained the modus operandi of his charity and its role in ameliorating youth homelessness in rural New South Wales.

BackTrack will be the first recipient of our funding support.
PETER LALOR OPENS THE INNINGS
Author and eminent cricket writer Peter Lalor of “The Australian”, who ran the Sun-Herald City2Surf on August 13th, raised a commendable $ 7500 for The Chappell Foundation.

We are most grateful to him for undertaking our first fund-raising campaign.
LEGEND TO LEAD CRICKET AUSTRALIA RUNNING TEAM
Batting great and former Australian Women’s cricket captain Belinda Clark is running in the 2017 Melbourne Marathon Festival to raise funds for the Chappell Foundation.
She says, “As we all look forward to the challenges and excitement of a massive summer of cricket, I thought it is also a good time to consider the challenges some people have every night finding a warm, safe place to sleep and something to eat. As many of you would be aware, Greg Chappell is leading the charge with the newly formed Chappell Foundation to raise some funds to help young people in this situation”.

We are extremely grateful to all of them for their thoughtfulness and sacrifice and wish them a highly enjoyable and successful run, with lots of money raised, of course!
